Overview

The Associate Planning Engineer supports Con Edison's Transmission Planning team in advancing New York State's clean energy goals. This role focuses on integrating renewable resourcessuch as offshore wind, solar, and energy storageinto the bulk electric system. The engineer will perform technical studies, assist in developing system upgrades, and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure reliable and efficient transmission operations.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Contribute to incorporating New York State clean energy requirements into Con Edisons Transmission Master Plan.
  • Support short and long-term bulk electric system studies for renewable integration, including offshore wind, solar, and energy storage.
  • Conduct thermal, voltage, short-circuit, and stability analyses to maintain system reliability.
  • Assist in designing and planning transmission system modifications to accommodate new technologies.
  • Analyze reliability benefits of proposed projects and provide technical input.
  • Participate in interconnection studies for company-owned projects.
  • Collaborate with NYISO and other stakeholders to substantiate local and bulk transmission planning efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements, including NERC guidelines.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Power Engineering and Two years of relevant work experience, including one year of engineering experience related to the planning, design, or operation of the bulk electric transmission system.
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Engineering and Two years of relevant work experience, including one year of engineering experience related to the planning, design, or operation of the bulk electric transmission system.
Relevant Work Experience
  • Exposure to the design and /or operation of the electric power system, required.
  • Capability of using PSS/E, TARA, Aspen or equivalent power system simulation programs, required.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Driver's License Required
Additional Physical Demands
  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
