Ramadugu lab is focused on developing citrus Huanglongbing resistance through breeding. Under the direct supervision of the PI, the Laboratory Assistant I is expected to assist in projects related to citrus breeding, molecular analysis of hybrids, and metabolomics. The selected individual is expected to follow the University guidelines and take the required safety courses.
The individual hired for this limited with possibility of career appointment, Laboratory Assistant 1, will assist the PI in conducting pathogenicity experiments in the Biological safety level 3 facility located on Marlborough street. The candidate hired is expected to undergo training as a BSL3 user and assist the PI with pathogenicity experiments as needed. They will care for grafted plants, maintain inventories for four greenhouses, enter data for the Field book app and update this information as needed, assist the team in preparing for genotyping experiments. They will also assist the team in fruit analysis that involves collecting fruit from the pollinated plants for metabolomic analysis. In the lab, they will assist in taking pictures of fruits, juicing them, and labeling tubes containing the juice. The employee will also process seeds obtained from pollinated fruits, conduct sanitation procedures, and help in planting seeds. The selected individual would conduct DNA and RNA extractions, as well as assist the team in conducting qPCR assays. Occasionally, when the lab is involved in field planting, the lab assistant collaborates with the group to complete the required tasks. The employee will cooperate with the PI and other members of the lab (including student workers) to accomplish the tasks required for the research projects. The full salary range for the Lab Assistant is $21.01 - $24.32 per hour. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs. Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff. As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time.
