Vaco Memphis is assisting its client in its search for a Controller.
Position Summary

  • Lead accounting and financial operations for the distribution business

  • Hands-on leadership role combining strategic oversight with operational involvement

  • Operate in a dynamic, entrepreneurial, mid-sized business environment

  • Balance strong accounting controls with flexibility required for growth

Reporting Structure

  • Reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and President

  • Oversee a team of four to five accounting and administrative staff responsible for accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory management, core management, and rebate administration

Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Controls

  • Own the general ledger and all accounting operations

  • Ensure accurate and timely month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closes

  • Establish, document, and maintain internal accounting controls and procedures

  • Manage multi-state sales tax compliance and reporting

  • Oversee cash management, bank reconciliations, and treasury functions

  • Prepare financial statements and management reporting packages

  • Support annual audit and tax preparation processes

  • Implement and manage cost accounting for remanufacturing and repair operations

Team Leadership

  • Manage accounts receivable, including credit, collections, and customer account maintenance

  • Oversee accounts payable processes, including vendor management and payment processing

  • Direct core inventory tracking and accounting

  • Manage vendor and customer rebate programs, including tracking, accruals, and reconciliations

  • Manage and oversee inventory and purchasing controls

Reporting & Business Intelligence

  • Develop and maintain business intelligence reports and dashboards to support decision-making

  • Analyze financial and operational data to identify trends and opportunities

  • Create actionable insights using ERP systems and analytics tools

Operational & Cross-Functional Involvement

  • Partner with operations to provide financial insights that drive business decisions

  • Support operational tasks as needed in an entrepreneurial environment

  • Coordinate with the parent holding company on consolidated reporting and corporate initiatives

  • Collaborate with the sister company's finance team on shared processes and best practices

  • Support inventory accuracy initiatives and cycle count programs

  • Contribute to technology and process improvement projects

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

  • Seven or more years of progressive accounting experience

  • At least three years of supervisory experience

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal control frameworks

  • Experience with multi-state operations and sales tax compliance

  • Proven ability to manage a small accounting team

  • Hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves approach

  • Strong Excel skills and comfort with ERP systems

  • Experience creating business intelligence reports and dashboards

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to translate financial information for non-financial audiences

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA or CMA designation

  • Cost accounting experience

  • Familiarity with core exchange accounting and remanufactured parts inventory

  • Experience managing vendor and customer rebate programs

Technology Environment

  • Infor CloudSuite Distribution (CSD) or similar Infor ERP platforms

  • CSD Analytics (Birst) or similar BI tools

  • Cyberscience or similar distribution management systems

  • Avalara or similar automated sales tax compliance tools

  • Google Workspace and Microsoft Office

  • AODocs or similar document management systems

  • HubSpot or similar CRM platforms

Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco/Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual's skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs.
