SUMMARY:

The Urology Clinical Coordinator reports to the Director of the Division of Urology; this position also works collaboratively with and has a dotted line to the Chief of Urology.

The Clinical Coordinator is responsible for supporting the clinical, educational, and quality improvement needs of the Division of Urology. Acting as a resource to nurse managers and clinical staff, the coordinator advances evidence-based practice, standardizes care processes, and facilitates communication between inpatient units, surgical programs, and outpatient urology offices. The role leads initiatives that reduce variation, strengthen interprofessional teamwork, improve patient outcomes, and enhance the overall experience of urology patients throughout their hospital journey.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Designs and implements strategies to improve clinical outcomes that align with organizational priorities, including reducing length of stay, decreasing mortality and readmissions, strengthening inter-unit teamwork, and enhancing the inpatient urology patient experience.
  • Serves as a clinical liaison between inpatient units, surgical programs, and outpatient urology practices to ensure safe, efficient, and well-coordinated transitions of care.
  • In conjunction with the Director & Chief of Urology, coordinates monthly shared governance meetings to report on patient quality, experience, and outcomes.
  • In collaboration with the Director & Physician Leadership, leads the development and revision of clinical policies, procedures, and standards of care, ensuring alignment with evidence-based practice and regulatory expectations.
  • Manages the development, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based clinical care pathways and protocols, promoting standardization and quality across the continuum of urologic care.
  • Serves as clinical point of contact for the OR Team, nurse managers, and other hospital personnel for needs related to urology patients.
  • Assists with preparation of new urological equipment/device requests as needed.
  • Collaborates with the patient navigator and nursing leadership to plan and deliver patient and staff education; oversees pre-operative education programming to ensure consistency, accuracy, and patient readiness for surgery.
  • Oversees quality assurance and performance improvement activities by collecting, analyzing, and interpreting clinical and operational data; prepares and presents reports to leadership on key metrics such as length of stay, patient experience, complications, and throughput.
  • Participates in hospital committees and work groups to represent urology services, and support interdisciplinary collaboration as needed.
  • Supports urology research efforts by assisting with clinical data retrieval, coordinating with research personnel, and contributing to project development as appropriate.
  • Works on assigned projects from the Director, Chief or Urology, Urology Faculty or leadership as needed.

REQUIRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • BSN required, with current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island. Conformity to the Code of Professional Nurses. Understanding of the provisions of the Nurse Practice Act of the state of Rhode Island.
  • Minimum three years' nursing experience in a Med-surgical, Operating Room, PACU or related inpatient setting.
  • Three or more years of progressively responsible clinical experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, problem solving, organization and leadership skills. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences including professional staff, patients, surgeons, and community partners.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and sensitivity to cultural diversity.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Surgeons, Advance Practice Providers, and hospital staff to coordinate patient care.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrates initiative and accountability, consistently achieving objectives with minimal supervision while prioritizing patient care and departmental goals.
  • Escalates complex or non-routine issues to the supervisor as needed, particularly when clarification of departmental policies or procedures are needed.

PREFERRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior Urology experience preferred.
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or higher preferred.
  • Active APRN License in RI Preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Normal patient care environment with exposure to infectious diseases. Hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety precautions. May work off-site at educational / promotional events.

Pay Range:

$83,532.80-$167,044.80
