General Description
Overview: The Hospitalist Program at Johns Hopkins Hospital is a group of more than 50 faculty, 12-14 APP, and 5-6 support staff embedded within the Department of Medicine. The group's mission includes patient care, education, research, and clinical administration. Hospitalist Program: Scope of Clinical Activities The group's current clinical activities include: Direct care services, a hospitalist-run Resident-covered general medical service ("Brancati Service"), Consultative activities (Consult service), Comanagement services (Orthopedic Surgery Co-management and Oncology Solid Tumor Co-management), Medicine Progressive Care Unit ("MPC"), Flex hospitalist program, and Hopkins Access Line coverage. The Hospitalist Unit and Brancati Service, combined, carry up to 90 inpatients at a time. Some faculty also participate in clinical activities that are not under direct supervision of the Hospitalist Program, including Pediatrics and the Osler Firms. Additional clinical services are currently being explored (including neurology IMC co-management and creation of a short stay unit) and may be deployed within the next year. The Hospitalist Program employs support staff (hospitalist administrators, a nurse practitioner to expedite care, and medical office coordinators) and also employs moonlighters (faculty, residents and fellows) to support some clinical activities. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers.
