DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will support and serve veterans by guiding them through the process of filing for benefits and other services. By working closely with them to complete and submit their application forms, you will ensure that all legal requirements are met. Your work will involve communicating with medical professionals to gather necessary evidence and provide them with the required forms. Further duties will also include conducting interviews with claimants to gather information and facilitate the development of their claims. Additionally, you will establish and maintain contact with veterans' organizations and government agencies to ensure veterans and their families receive services.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 45-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, 5 days out of 10 days in a pay period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Philadelphia. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Five years of experience in analyzing and determining individuals' eligibility for public benefits or services programs; or
  • One year as a Veterans Services Specialist, DMVA (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year of experience in analyzing and determining individuals' eligibility for public benefits or services programs and a bachelor's degree in human services, business administration, public administration, or a related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • All positions in this job are required to possess valid accreditation by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs as a veterans service officer or eligibility for accreditation within one year from the date of employment.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must possess a valid federal or state-issued photo ID and pass a favorable NCIC screening for admittance to Fort Indiantown Gap.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Knowledge of interviewing techniques used to gather information for public assistance programs and their eligibility requirements
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Experience with veterans benefits and services programs
  • Experience with identifying and promoting veteran benefits and services to the public, community partners, and federal, state, and local providers through formal or informal meetings, events, consultations, and speaking engagements
  • Non-commercial Class C Driver's License or equivalent
  • Willingness to travel which may require overnight stays on short notice
