Job Description

This is skilled work on a journeyman level combining activities in various mechanical and building trade areas of endeavor such as installation, operation, maintenance, service and repair of electrical, refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, ventilating, and plumbing systems, equipment and fixtures.

While work is distributed to take advantage of particular skills possessed, employees would normally perform work at various times in each of the areas indicated. Work is subject to inspection for conformance to specifications and accepted standards of the trade but is primarily reviewed through observation of results.

Functional contacts include co-workers, other service department employees, administrative personnel at the job locations, university staff, students and building occupants.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Has responsibility for the basic repair and maintenance of one or more buildings or areas and all fixed and movable equipment and fixtures of such buildings or areas
  • Notify supervisor of tasks requiring other trades personnel
  • Perform skilled duties relating to the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of electrical, refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, ventilating and plumbing systems, fixed and movable equipment, fixtures and units
  • Utilize a variety of necessary tools and mechanical equipment for each trade incidental to operation, repair, maintenance and installation tasks
  • May perform or assist in performance of any of the following: preparation of cost estimates, preparation of material orders, maintenance of records and preparation of reports
  • Because of necessary fluctuations of workloads in the skill area an incumbent in this class may be required, on an occasional basis and according to need, to perform duties outside his/her trade area at a level of skill the same as or lower than required by his/her ordinary assignment. Normal safety requirements, scheduling and the most efficient use of staff and equipment are taken into consideration in such assignments
  • Perform related duties as assigned
Shift

Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm

Minimum Qualifications

* A high school diploma or equivalent; demonstrated ability may offset requirements.
* Combined experience totaling 4 years in two or more skilled trades areas including the equivalent of apprenticeship or vocational training in a mechanical trade that would qualify an individual as a trade journey level.
* Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, plumbing and electrical codes.
* Skill in maintenance and use of tools, equipment and materials applicable trades.
* Sufficient strength to perform some heavy lifting and work on ladders on an occasional basis.
* A valid driver's license may be required for certain positions.
* Certification may be required in some areas.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five years of experience in appliance repairs
  • One year of experience in pumps and motors
  • One year of experience in commercial food service equipment repair
Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $20.49-$27.48 hourly.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
