| Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The goal of the
UNC Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (
HPDP) is to prevent chronic disease and reduce health disparities. Investigators and staff at
HPDP work with communities to conduct research, provide training and translate research findings into policy and practice. Research areas include nutrition and physical activity, cardiovascular health, diabetes, obesity, healthy food access, cancer prevention and control, children's health, rural health, and health equity.
HPDP is part of a network of 20
CDC Prevention Research Centers across the United States. |
| Position Summary |
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy.
UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
This is a temporary
SHRA Research Assistant position (30-40 hours per week). This position will work with the Community Health and Wellness Resource Team, across multiple research projects. The Research Assistant will help with our Cares (
NIH R01 study) project, particularly with recruitment of early childhood education (
ECE) center directors, classroom teachers, and children ages 3-5 years old. This will require phone calls to get
ECE center directors interested, visits to the center to recruit classroom teachers in-person, and visiting centers to recruit children ages 3-5 years old in the classrooms through their parents in-person as they pick their children up. The Research Assistant duties will involve emails and texting participants and keeping the recruitment and data collection database up to date and accurate. The Research Assistant will help with coding of
ECE centers policy documents and menus. Additionally, over time there will be the opportunity to enter data previously collected through observations at the center. The Research Assistant will work on the Screen Time project (
NIH R01), helping with coding videos from previously collected data. Finally, they will help with the recruitment for the Resilience project. This task will require the employee to talk with
ECE directors over the phone and work with them remotely to get staff interested in participating and working with both of them to fill out online surveys through Qualtrics.
The Research Assistant position will be hybrid, working some days in office and some days remotely. |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
