Eligibility




  1. All regularfull time IBEW employees will be considered first, then Supplemental Workforce.



  2. All regularfull time Performance Review (PR) and Temporary PR employees may submit their interest; however they will onlybe considered when there are no qualified IBEW union employees and external hire has been authorized.



  3. Regular Union employees may not bid on a posted job until he/she has worked six (6) months in his/her current job, except when bidding on a Union classification that would be a promotion or when bidding into the Pre-Apprentice or Apprenticeship programs.



  4. If you have been on a Performance Improvement Plan in the last twelve (12) months or had active discipline, you are required to disclose this information to Talent Acquisition during the bidding process. (In accordance with Human Resources - HR-EL-PRD-0105, please refer to the 3P website.)

  6. Must live or relocate within reasonable distance to the headquarters. Reasonable distance is defined as one (1) hour for Metro and State Region locations. Failure to accept a job offer due to the reasonable distance requirement specific to the position will be counted toward the bid restriction as described in Article 13, Section 11.

Production Trainee - Gas and Oil Job Posting Details


APS has immediate openings for Production Traineesat ourRedhawk Power Plant. Upon successful completion of the Production Trainee Program (maximum six months), you will be promoted to the next classification and continue progressing toward becoming a fully qualified Gas & Oil Power Plant Auxiliary Operator.



What You'll Do as a Production Trainee:



  • Support the safe, efficient, and costeffective production of electric energy.
  • Supply and prepare equipment, tools, materials, and protective devices needed for various jobs.
  • Haul and position materials and parts; assist as needed on tasks.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and a forklift.
  • Perform digging and backfilling using hand tools.
  • Spend the first 180 days split between classroom training and fieldwork (e.g., helper or laborertype duties)

Short Description

Career Path & Advancement:


Employees progress through the classification line over 1.5 Years. The program is structured to give you the skills and experience needed to become a fully qualified Auxiliary Operator. An Auxiliary Operator supports power plant operations by monitoring, operating, and maintaining auxiliary equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable electricity production. The Auxiliary Operator takes field readings, identifies and corrects equipment issues, performs basic maintenance and water testing, follows strict safety procedures, and coordinates closely with the Control Operator during normal operations, startups, shutdowns, and emergencies at the plant.

Please note: Selected candidates will be based at the Redhawk Power Plant and may be scheduled for training rotations at any of the following locations:



  • West Phoenix Power Plant - Phoenix, AZ
  • Ocotillo Power Plant - Tempe, AZ
  • Sundance Power Plant - Coolidge, AZ
  • Yucca Power Plant - Yuma, AZ



The work schedule for this position is a 12-hour rotating shift as defined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement; LOMA dated December 8, 2015.



After completion of the AO Training program, if there is not an Auxiliary Operator position open in your classification at the plant where you completed your training program, you may be forced to go to other plants that have an open position.

Short Description

Production Trainee Program Requirements:


-Must successfully complete allrequired training for Production Trainee within 6 months of hire.
- Reasonable and necessary overtime will be required.
-Production Trainee will report toOperationsbased on projected plant needs.



Minimum Requirements:


-High School DiplomaorGED.
- Must beeighteen (18)years or older.
- Possess avalid driver's license.
- Pass both theEEI mechanical aptitude test (MASS)andtheEEI operations aptitude test (POSS).
- Must live within reasonable distance(one (1) hour)of headquarters.
- Pass apanel interview.
- Pass APS physical exam (drug test, etc.).
- This position requires working with aerial equipment, which has weight restrictions of 300lbs or less



Major Accountabilities:


- Complies with safety and environmental rules and regulations.
- Complies with all Company policies and procedures.
- Successfully completes all assigned training per the training plan.
- Hauls and positions material and parts. Assists as needed.
- Operates hand tools, power tools and forklift.
- Digs and back fills with hand tools.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

A written [paper and pencil] test will be administered.
A test using a computer with keyboard will be administered.
A hands-on skills test will be administered.
A physical ability test will be administered.

Role Type

CIP Requirement:

This position requires Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) access consistent with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards. The applicant considered for this role will be required to obtain and maintain CIP access for the duration of employment in this position. A full seven (7) year criminal history will be obtained through the pre-employment background check process (or, for current employees, through supplemental background check process) to fulfill the CIP access requirements. In addition, this position requires an additional background check every seven years to maintain access.
