Function:

Intern/Co-op Job Summary:The Engineering Co-op Student will support the Project Engineering team in executing various engineering and project management tasks across Distribution Facilities. This role offers hands-on experience in facility operations, project planning, and technical documentation, while contributing to real-world engineering initiatives. The student will also gain exposure to and experience with industry-standard engineering software packages, including AutoCAD, CEASAR II, and HYSYS, used for design, analysis, and documentation. Job Description:

Major Responsibilities:

  • Engineering Project Support (50%)
  • Assist in evaluating and improving facility processes and operations.
  • Support the development of project scopes, specifications, and documentation.
  • Help maintain and update engineering drawings such as P&IDs and loop diagrams.
  • Participate in field work and contractor coordination under supervision.
  • Contribute to cost tracking and budget preparation for small-scale projects.

Project Coordination (10%)

  • Help monitor project schedules and milestones.
  • Assist in identifying risks and opportunities related to project timelines.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Operations and THTS.

Team Collaboration & Learning (40%)

  • Shadow experienced engineers and participate in team meetings.
  • Contribute to engineering reports and presentations.
  • Engage in training and development opportunities provided by the department.
  • Learn and apply engineering software tools including AutoCAD, CEASAR II, and HYSYS.

Supervisory Relationships:

Position Reports To: Supervisor, Project Engineering

Incumbent Attributes:

Education: Currently pursuing a B.S. in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.

Years of experience: Prior internship or project experience in facility design or operations is a plus.

Other unique job relevant attributes:

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, CEASAR II, and HYSYS is preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% within North America.

Position Scope/Contribution

  • Breadth of Scope: Implement projects whose effect is felt across the network of Distribution Facilities. Provide assistance with project management for Engineering Department.
  • Communications and Interpersonal Skills: Effectively communicate/interact with all employee levels.
  • Strategic Influence: Collaborate with Engineering, THTS, and Operations leaders to define, prioritize, and develop projects. Provide reports to management on existing and in-development projects.
