The Institute for Community and Rural Heath at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a (Hybrid) WV AHEC Student Program Coordinator About the Opportunity The WV AHEC Student Program Coordinator works with the Associate Director, Director, and Center staff to recruit and retain participants for WV AHEC student programs including the WV AHEC Rural Community Health Scholars as required by the HRSA AHEC grant program. Under the direction of the WV AHEC Associate Director, the Program Coordinator has oversight over Scholars and other student activities for recruitment, retention, and promotion. The Program Coordinator will also be responsible for WV AHEC social media and promotion of WV AHEC programs This position serves as a resource contact, and independently uses professional concepts and techniques, as well as organizational policies to solve a wide range of moderate problems in imaginative and practical ways. In-depth skills, knowledge, and interpretive abilities, as well as creativity, are required to successfully perform duties. Work effort often addresses non-routine matters within established protocol, guidelines, and/or policies. Work effort has significant impact on client services and operations, producing moderate to major organizational, legal, and financial results and/or liabilities. - Update and execute the annual plan of action for recruitment and retention of WV AHEC Rural Community Health Scholars and other student programs.
- Conduct in-person recruitment and virtual recruitment strategies for student programs, including all Scholars-eligible disciplines.
- Recommend changes to the WV AHEC Scholars manual, handbook and website for students, instructors, preceptors, and staff based on programmatic needs and changes.
- Execute strategies for program recruitment and construct materials for program marketing and promotion.
- Support WV AHEC Center Directors with respect to Scholar recruitment and communication, marketing, and promotion for WV AHEC Scholars programs.
- Liaise with statewide education institutions and health professions programs to foster collaboration and encourage program enrollment/participation.
- Maintain frequent, ongoing communication with student program participants, including Scholars.
- Utilizing the Scholars Communication Log, identify, enroll, and complete Scholars program activities to support program completion.
- Assist with data collection for programs needed to complete internal and external reports and evaluations under the direction of the Program Director and with support from the Evaluation Team.
- Communicate with module instructors, CBSE preceptors, and strategic partners to identify and proactively address any issues related to Scholars and other student program activities.
- Work with individual program participants, including Scholars, to identify career goals and connect Scholars with job opportunities in West Virginia, including leveraging the WVRHA jobs board.
- Assure Program Completers receive completion materials (certificates, cords, and digital badges) and stipends in a timely fashion.
- Assure Scholars Program Module Instructors receive annual appreciation letters.
- Assure Scholars Program Module Instructors receive certificates of appreciation once their service to the program is determined to be complete.
- Develop social media calendar for all WV AHEC programs and post to social media accounts on a recurring basis.
- Travel statewide to facilitate program promotion, maintain collaborations, and cultivate new relationships.
- Monitor program activities and provide reports to Supervisor at least monthly.
- Prepare report components specific to HRSA designated outcome requirements as requested.
- Develop WV AHEC Scholars content for and participate in management of WVU Institute for Community and Rural Health and WV AHEC websites and social media pages, including the Scholars graduate slideshow and WV AHEC monthly digital newsletters.
- Compose and submit communications to institutional news outlets to highlight student and WV AHEC program achievements and programmatic events, as well as promote the WV AHEC Scholars program.
- Coordinate, and occasionally develop with support from the Evaluation Team, supplemental community-based interprofessional experiences for Scholars.
- Monitor program participant progression as they matriculate through required programming and respond to student inquiries as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in health planning, health administration, public relations, communications, or a related field.
- A minimum of one (1) year of experience with recruitment, student services, or similar experience.
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

- Required to be detail-oriented and able to bring an issue to focus and make decisions, consulting with WV AHEC team as needed.

- Maintains skills in, or knowledge of, professional principles, legal and/or reporting requirements affecting areas of responsibility.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability and willingness to travel statewide, with occasional overnight or out-of-state travel.
- Skilled at using current computer software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Canva), e-mail, fax, and other office equipment.
