Senior Buyer

Fike Corporation, a rapidly growing international manufacturer of pressure relief, explosion protection, fire suppression and detection equipment, has an opportunity for a Senior Buyer position. Fike is a privately held business located in Blue Springs, MO with over 400 employees locally & over 1,200 employees worldwide.

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for driving the activities associated with project management, product/service sourcing, commodity management, supplier management, and contracts management. Negotiates contracts using knowledge that is based on technical understanding of the types of purchases to be made, market factors and internal requirements. Provides a leadership role in the Purchasing Department.



Primary Responsibilities:


  1. Provide support to New Product Development and Process Improvement in the area of product/service sourcing.
  2. Coordinate efforts with Quality Assurance, Engineering, Production, New Product Development and Process Improvement in performing Supplier Assessment and Selection.
  3. Develop forecasts of supply conditions and provide product trends to key stakeholders within Fike Corporation.
  4. Evaluate supplier delivery and quality performance. Take remedial action when warranted.
  5. Collaborate with applicable personnel within the organization to achieve supplier improvements and monitors closure of non-conformances.
  6. Review shortages, supply and demand, purchase orders, item master setups, inventory replenishment, and supplier returns.
  7. Provide project leadership with internal and external partners to drive projects to completion.
  8. Develop supplier managed inventory programs.
  9. Resolve problems independently and collaborate with Purchasing Manager on particularly complex, sensitive or controversial matters.
  10. Source suppliers and maintain long-lasting relationships with them as well as existing suppliers.
  11. Implement inventory optimization strategies within the company.
  12. Negotiate price, quantity, and delivery schedules with suppliers.
  13. Work with legal counsel to ensure that all contracts relating to product procurement contain all details of the negotiation.
  14. Generate quote comparison and contribute to internal supplier selection based on the quotes.
  15. Provide solutions to improve company spending and outsourcing.
  16. Perform tasks according to Fike Corporation policies, procedures, goals and according to the direction of the Purchasing Manager and the Director of Global Supply Chain.
  17. Maintain the confidentially of all information processed.

Job Qualifications:

REQUIRED:Bachelor's degree in Business or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Five years or more of post degree experience in a Manufacturing, Purchasing, or Operations environment. Knowledge of Supply Management, Materials Resource Planning concepts, and Material Replenishment processes. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Windows. Must be a self-starter with good interpersonal skills.


PREFERRED: CPM certification or APICS, CPIM AND CIRM certifications. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Windows. Familiarity with SalesForce and Google Suite.



Compensation:The pay range for this position is $67,527 to $84,402 per year. May increase depending on the level of experience of the candidate.
