The University of Texas at Austin is seeking to hire a communications coordinator to support communications and university community engagement efforts for the Campus Master Plan Update Project - a multi-year initiative that will help to identify University needs, priorities and strategic vision, and guide planning efforts for the University's physical campuses for decades to come. This role provides a unique opportunity to be a part of a transformative project on a dynamic, visionary team in order to support an effort that will engage every area of the University's organization. This position will be responsible for gathering information and coordinating clear, timely, consistent, and accessible communications that inform and engage campus and community stakeholders throughout the master planning process. Working closely with campus leadership, planning teams, the Master Plan consultant team, and the Operational Services and Strategies communications team, the Communications Coordinator will help translate complex planning concepts into understandable messaging to support the master planning effort. This position is currently funded for a 3 year period.

Purpose

Create and support engagement and communications efforts in support of the Campus Master Plan.

Responsibilities
  • Support development and execution of the Campus Master Plan communications strategy.
  • Draft, edit, and coordinate communications materials, including correspondence, web content, newsletters, FAQs, and project updates for internal and external audiences. Coordinate messaging and timelines with internal partners and external consultants.
  • Assist with planning and promotion of engagement activities such as forums, workshops, focus groups, town halls, and surveys.
  • Maintain and update the Campus Master Plan website, including schedule, project status and project graphics provided by the planning team. Monitor and collate feedback received on the website and share it with the project team.
  • Prepare briefing materials, talking points, and presentation content for leadership.
  • Help translate technical planning information into clear, audience-friendly language.
  • Collaborate with Operational Services and Strategies communications team to ensure consistent and aligned messaging. Ensure communications align with university brand standards and messaging guidelines.
  • Track feedback and engagement metrics to inform communications and engagement efforts.
  • Other related functions as assigned.
Required Qualifications

7 years of professional experience in communications, public relations, public affairs, journalism, or similar work. Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field. Excellent writing and communications skills. Experience using content management systems and managing web and digital content. Ability to work independently and to collaborate on teams. Experience working in Adobe Creative Suite and with programs such as Canva. Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work independently or in concert with other teams to ensure appropriate coordination, time management, and prioritization of competing tasks. Ability to use tact, diplomacy, discretion and confidentiality. Ability to adhere to high ethical standards. An equivalent combination of relevant education or experience may be substituted.

Preferred Qualifications

7+ years of professional experience in communications, public relations, public affairs, journalism or similar work. Experience in the construction or architecture industries, higher education, public sector, planning or capital projects. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Salary Range

$75,000 + depending on qualifications
