Position Summary
UNC Genetics Department is seeking an Accounting Technician. The primary duties of the Accounting Technician are to be responsible for managing and overseeing research and supporting funds for the assigned groups or teams within the department of Genetics. The position completes monthly account reconciliation and billing, manages receivables, performs collection activities, and supply expenditures, and provides support for various projects and reporting responsibilities as needed.

Duties include, but may not be limited to:
-Preparation and review of monthly reconciliation reports to verify appropriateness of expenditures and ensuring compliance with university policy.
-Managing invoice collections and preparing accounts receivable aging reports to facilitate collection activities.
-Overseeing administrative duties needed by the assigned research or funding projects including ordering supplies and overseeing maintenance contracts for equipment.
-Developing action plans to address deficiencies and facilitate improvement to promote effective and efficient processes.

This position also serves as specialist in fiscal knowledge, such as payroll, contract/grants, and related accounting services. Technical accounting work includes independent responsibility for maintaining accounting records. This position's responsibility is to analyze data for accuracy, to problem-solve, and to interpret regulations as well as reverses errors. They are accountable for accuracy of entries and reconciliation of data and information. They coordinate and make recommendations for system changes and test new processes.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in accounting work; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Management Preferences
* Knowledge of University financial systems and procedures.
* Demonstrated experience with monitoring and managing financial accounts for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with accounting standards and regulations and/or program
laws and regulations.
* Demonstrated ability to manage reporting of complex financial area or program(s), including preparation and analysis of financial statements and reports.
* Ability to develop and implement procedure changes.
* Working knowledge of the department's function, organization structure, division of responsibility and staffing.
