About the Department and/or College

Facilities Planning & Construction manages new construction and renovation projects valued over $4 million for the Texas Tech University System and its five universities-Texas Tech University, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Angelo State University, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso and Midwestern State University.

Operating on more than a dozen locations, each university has campuses with state-of-the-art spaces where students, faculty, employees and visitors can learn, discover and experience the first-class environment provided throughout the Texas Tech University System.

Additionally, the department oversees campus master planning, facility and land development, public art and vendor information for all five component institutions.

Major/Essential Functions

Support the TTU System adopted Values-Based Culture core values: People First, Integrity, Community, Resilience and Exemplary Service. Promotes the Servant Leadership management philosophy as adopted by The Vice Chancellor of Facilities Planning and Construction.

Perform the role of Interiors Project Manager for TTUS FP&C projects serving the component Institutions providing guidance and direction to Design Professionals regarding interior finishes, FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment), interior building art (not public commissioned art), branding, and interior donor signage for all FP&C construction projects. Maintain proper documentation of interiors, FF&E, and interior art in Trimble Unity Construct.

Work with each component Institution, under the supervision of the Associate Vice Chancellor, to ensure defined expectations are met or exceeded regarding interior finishes, FF&E interior Artwork, and interior donor and wayfinding signage for all FP&C projects.

Develop and manage furniture, fixtures, equipment, branding, and interior art budgets. Assist with the interior plan reviews at each phase of development.

Coordinate FF&E and interior art selections, procurement packages, and installation with project schedules to ensure on-time delivery for Substantial Completion. Coordinate with all institutions and Senior Program Directors on development and budgets for FF&E, art, branding, and signage. Partner with TTUS FP&C accounting to issue timely PO's for prompt ordering and arrival of items.

Collaborate with Design Professionals as part of the TTUS FPC project team regarding interior design scopes of work to ensure all functional requirements and institutional standards are specified and met. Assist the Design Professional with functional space layout for FF&E, interior art, branding, and signage to meet the needs and expectations of end users and key stakeholders. Coordinate all communication regarding FF&E, interior finishes, artwork, donor, and wayfinding signage.

Provide oversight of the interior finish selection process to ensure the Design Professional's proposed selections align with TTUS FP&C Building Design and Construction Standards and meet the component institutions' expectations. Provide directions to the Design Professional to ensure that proposed finishes meet institutional standards and expectations regarding availability, durability, quality, cost, and schedule.

Collaborate with component institutions to evaluate and award FF&E bids. Review all FF&E quotes, submittals, and shop drawings for accuracy. Hold FF&E pre-installation meetings. Complete on-site inspections of FF&E and manage punch list documentation and completion. Document FF&E warranties and as-builts for long-term management by component institutions.

Work with the Design Professional to develop procurement documents required for interior art and branding. Manage and participate in the interior art partner selection process. Manage the interior art selection committee and ensure all art meets institutional standards and expectations.

Manage the FF&E selection, bidding, procurement, and installation process. Ensure furniture selections meet adopted component institutions' standards, budgets, and functional requirements. Update the FF&E bidding process as needed. Utilize the NOTCH software platform for FF&E procurement bid evaluation. Attend required project meetings and communicate with the project team to minimize scope changes and schedule conflicts.

Review the CSI Division 9, 10, 11, and 12 submittals for all projects. Coordinate with the AVC and DP on interior submittals to convey preferences and requirements. Assist with development, continual refinement, and updates to TTUS FP&C's Division 9 - Finishes and Division 12 - Furnishings Design and Construction Standards.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to listen and take precise notes regarding the needs of stakeholders and end users for the various spaces and spatial functions associated with TTUS FPandC projects. Have functional knowledge of software within the MS Windows Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, and Power Point, Etc.). Ability to learn new project management softwares (Trimble Unity Construct, Bluebeam, Notch, cloud-based management platforms, etc.) and embrace software as an integral tool for the management of projects.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree plus three years related experience; OR a combination of education and/or related experience to equal seven years.

Preferred Qualifications

Exceptional skill set in interior design and finish selection, adhering to the adopted standards of the five component Universities under the Texas Tech University System. Advanced knowledge of FF&E, architectural/interior finishes, lighting, art, signage, color, and materials to execute design intent, with general knowledge of building codes and 2012 Texas Accessibility Standards as they apply to interior design. Licensed Interior Designer. Interiors project management experience.
