Alfred Williams & Company (AWC), a leader in commercial furniture and workplace solutions since 1867, is proud to offer our Summer 2026 Design Internship Program. As one of the top five MillerKnoll dealers in North America, AWC is committed to innovation, collaboration and the development of emerging design talent.

This paid, part-time internship provides hands-on experience in commercial interior design and workplace strategy within a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.


Program Highlights (Austin Location)


  • Position: Design Intern



  • Location: Austin AWC Showroom

    6310 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin, TX 78752



  • Dates: May 18, 2026 - August 14, 2026 (aligned with university requirements)



  • Compensation: $15.00 per hour



  • Schedule: Part-time, up to 29 hours per week




Program Overview

The Alfred Williams & Company Design Internship Program offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in commercial design and workplace solutions. This internship is designed for individuals passionate about design, eager to learn and ready to contribute to real-world projects.

Interns will gain direct exposure to:




  • Space planning and test fits



  • Product specification and finish selection



  • Renderings and presentation development



  • Site visits and installation shadowing



  • Collaboration with sales, marketing and project management teams



  • CET, AutoCAD and industry best practices



  • Professional development workshops and showroom tours




This internship provides a robust platform for aspiring designers to develop professionally while contributing to meaningful commercial projects.


Learning Objectives


  • Understanding the history of commercial design and workplace evolution



  • Familiarity with AWC's mission, values and commercial furniture specifications



  • Acquiring knowledge of interior design best practices and creative solution development



  • Gaining insights into professional firm practices and project processes




Key Responsibilities


  • Participate in creative solution development and product specification



  • Assist with acquiring samples, finishes and rough budgeting



  • Contribute to test-fits, space plans, pre-proposal meetings and presentations



  • Create renderings, visuals and presentation materials



  • Shadow installation days and participate in site visits before, during and after project completion



  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including sales, marketing and project management



Qualifications
Intern Candidate Qualifications


  • Enrollment in an accredited Interior Design program or equivalent education



  • Strong design and creative capabilities with a passion for applying the design process



  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, CET or other 3D modeling software, preferred



  • Self-motivated with strong organizational, verbal and written communication skills



  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
