Position Summary

Generates commercial and municipal loans and lines of credit while adhering to all Bank Policies and appropriate Federal and State Regulations. Successfully manages a less complex portfolio of smaller commercial loans ($3MM) and Lines of Credit ($1MM). Municipal Loans and Lines of Credit may be significantly higher due to the low level of risk and minimal oversight necessary. This position generally requires regular oversight and assistance from the Manager.

Essential Functions

Generates new Commercial and Municipal loans while referring cross-sell opportunities to other business lines within the Bank.

  • Interviews applicants and requests specified information for loan application.
  • Requests applicant credit reports, background checks, reference checks, and other information pertinent to loan applicant's evaluation.
  • Analyzes applicant financial status, credit, and property evaluation to determine feasibility of granting loan or submits application to credit analyst for further underwriting in accordance with Loan Policy.
  • Works with applicant or creditors to resolve questions regarding application information.
  • Compiles loan application package and facilitates negotiation of loan structure with applicant, including fees, loan repayment options, and other credit terms.
  • Approves loan within specified limits or refers loan to Manager or higher authority for decision.
  • Ensures timely and accurate loan closing and funding activities.
  • Identifies and develops prospects for commercial and municipal loans.
  • Promotes and cross-sells other products and services as appropriate to customer requirements.
  • Explains Adverse Action decisions to applicant(s) in a timely manner and assures that the appropriate Adverse Action Notice is provided in writing within the timeframe required.

Services Customer Portfolios:

  • Provides exceptional customer service to their customer base. Works with CLA to effectively resolve problems and address customer needs in a timely and professional manner.
  • Meets regularly with customers to strengthen the relationship, keep apprised of customer's business and expand the relationship as appropriate.
  • Monitors customers' financial performance. Assures that each loan within his/her portfolio has the appropriate risk rating assigned at all times. Maintains and updates credit files in accordance with Loan Policy requirements.
  • Works proactively with delinquent and/or deteriorating credits. Prepares Risk Rating changes, CAC reports and other reports as needed. Facilitates the timely transfer of deteriorating relationships to the Special Asset Officer after consultation with Manager or higher authority.
  • Represents the Bank effectively and professionally at events and on non-profit or banking related boards and organizations.
  • Performs additional duties as requested.

Position Metrics:

  • Commercial Loan and Commercial Line of Credit portfolio size, for this position after three years, would be expected to be in the $5MM to $15MM range depending on the market area served.
  • Loan Authority commensurate with this position is as follows:
  • $250,000 secured
  • $25,000 unsecured
  • $100,000 incremental
  • The Officer Title of this position is generally at the Bank Officer or AVP level.
Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree: or 2 to 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and general public.
  • Ability to work mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Comfort with, and efficient use of, technology.
  • Good interpersonal communication.
  • Ability to deliver negative news and explain the reasoning behind the decision.
  • Must be thoroughly familiar with and adhere to Loan Policy and other Bank Policies.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and privacy.
  • Professional appearance; grooming and dress consistent with MB appearance policy.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

  • Varied work with a normal expenditure of energy and little or no unusual physical effort
  • May involve incidental business machine operations.
  • Work involves intermittent periods of stationary positioning and traversing.
  • Working conditions include well-lit and well-ventilated areas.
  • Travel to other Mascoma Bank locations is required for training and occasional meetings.
