What You'll Do
Dakota County Library seeks an energetic, innovative, and community-oriented Teen Services Coordinator at the Wentworth Library in West St Paul, Minnesota. This position is responsible for developing and delivering quality services for teens, and families within the library and out in the community.

This person will thrive in a high-energy environment and enjoy connecting with others. They will assist library users of all ages with technology, use of print and digital resources, and connecting people to community resources. They will be an important youth advocate, highly attuned to the interests and needs of youth in our community, and will develop a range of educational and recreational programming and services to meet those needs. They will be strong connectors who communicate effectively with internal and external partners.

This position reports to the Wentworth Branch Manager and serves on the Youth Services Team and in the Dakota County Library system. Future vacancies for this position across all Dakota County Library locations may be filled from this list of eligible candidates for a period of up to six months.

Minimum Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in education, youth development, social science, human services or a related field AND two (2) years of experience working in youth, teen, or family programming.

OR
* Associate's degree AND four (4) years of work experience directly working with youth, youth engagement, service development, or youth programming and events.
OR
* An equivalent combination of education and experience to total six years. Work experience must be directly related to youth, youth engagement, service development, or youth programming and events.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* Experience working with diverse populations
* Bilingual skills in Spanish/English or English and another language

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Customer Service
    1. Provide friendly and approachable customer service
    2. Connect customers with library services and resources
    3. Assist customers with library technology
    4. Contribute to maintenance of books and materials for youth in the library location
  2. Relationship Building and Youth Advocacy
    1. Actively contribute to creating a welcoming and beneficial library environment for youth and families.
    2. Use, model, and share with colleagues' strong practices for working with teens.
    3. Actively solicit youth voice and collaboration to inform goals and direction for youth services and events.
  3. Service and Program Development
    1. Plan and deliver a wide array of program offerings responsive to the needs of a diverse community
    2. Stay attuned to evolving teen interests and trends and effectively use those trends in library services
    3. Collaborate with youth services colleagues to identify opportunities and best practices around Teen Services
    4. Utilize formal and informal evaluation tools to inform program development
  4. Community Connector
    1. Identify, build, and maintain connections to community groups and individuals to expand and promote library services
    2. Collaborate with area schools and other youth-serving organizations
    3. Maintain awareness of available community resources to serve library users with a range of needs.
  5. Other specialized duties as needed for the operation of the library.

Work Environment
The work is sedentary and requires no special physical demands. The work involves minimal risks and observance of safety precautions typical of office settings. The work is typically performed in an adequately lighted and climate controlled office. May require occasional travel.
