Job Summary
The Structured Cabling Technician II is responsible for independently installing, terminating, testing, and dressing copper and fiber cabling systems within data center and large-scale commercial environments. This role requires hands-on technical expertise and the ability to read basic drawings, follow industry standards, and execute work with minimal supervision. The Technician II plays a key role in ensuring structured cabling systems are installed to specification, tested for performance, and delivered on schedule while maintaining strict safety and security compliance. Job Responsibilities
* Install, route, and secure copper and fiber cabling in data center environments
* Build and install cable pathways including ladder rack, basket tray, and J-hooks
* Pull, route, and label cables while maintaining proper bend radius and support
* Terminate copper cabling including Cat5e, Cat6, and Cat6A connections
* Terminate fiber connections including LC and SC connectors
* Build, install, and dress server racks, cabinets, and patch panels
* Label, test, and certify cabling using industry-standard testing equipment
* Perform copper certification testing and fiber testing including OTDR as required
* Read and interpret basic floor plans, pathway drawings, and cable routing diagrams
* Document completed work, cable counts, and daily progress as directed
* Communicate progress, material needs, and issues to Leads or Foremen
* Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas within high-security data center environments
* Follow all safety policies, security protocols, and site-specific procedures
* Support rack and infrastructure hardware installation
* Assist in training or guiding entry-level technicians as needed Job Requirements
* Hands-on experience installing and terminating copper and fiber cabling systems
* Ability to terminate LC and SC fiber connections and RJ45 copper connections
* Experience working in data centers or commercial low voltage environments
* Proficiency in cable dressing, rack builds, and pathway installation
* Experience using cable certification testers and OTDR fiber testing equipment
* Understanding of TIA/EIA cabling standards and best practices
* Ability to read and interpret basic construction drawings and pathway diagrams
* Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
* Ability to follow strict safety and security protocols
* Ability to work on ladders, lifts, and in confined spaces
* Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical labor for extended periods Education
* High school diploma or GED preferred Work Experience
* 2+ years of experience in structured cabling, low voltage installation, or commercial data center projects Benefits
