Compensation:

We offer our employees a competitive compensation and benefits package that reflects our organizational culture, mission, and core values. The hourly range for this position is $28.50 to $30.14 and is commensurate with experience.

Position Description: The Development Associate provides essential support to the Individual Philanthropy team, ensuring timely and thoughtful stewardship of donors. This role is primarily responsible for acknowledging various monetary contributions, including annual gifts, memorial and honorary donations, and monthly sustainer contributions.

Key responsibilities include: ensuring accurate and consistent data entry to maintain donor records; drafting and coordinating donor-facing correspondence including acknowledgments, invitations, and stewardship materials such as appeals, newsletters, and impact reports; reconciling failed transactions; assisting in the identification of donor prospects by preparing reports on giving histories, team performance, and organizational trends as needed, managing and responding to general inquiries directed to the development department via phone and email; ensuring prompt and professional communication.

This role plays a vital part in strengthening donor relationships and supporting the overall success of the Individual Philanthropy team.

Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (Full-Time; 32 hours per week); Primarily on-site, with an expectation of four days per week in the office. Remote/Telework: Limited

Telework may be available with supervisor approval after the successful completion of a 90-day introductory period; No evening or weekend hours.

Required: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. 2 years of experience in nonprofit development operations, fundraising support, or related administrative roles. Demonstrated experience working with donor databases/CRMs and reporting tools.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) with expertise in mail merges.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, particularly for formal correspondence and donor communications.
  • Familiarity with CRM or donor database management; experience with Salesforce and GoFundMePro/Classy platforms.
  • Highly organized, with strong attention to detail and a keen interest in maintaining data accuracy.
  • Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to engage professionally with donors and stakeholders.
  • Action-oriented with a proactive approach to tasks and problem-solving.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively across teams in a fast-paced environment with competing demands.


Expected Contributions: Fundraising



  • Manage the donor acknowledgment process by developing and maintaining standardized templates tailored to gift types and donor preferences, and by implementing tracking systems to monitor the accuracy and timeliness of all gift acknowledgements.
  • Monitor transactions in GoFundMePro in an effort to reconcile failed transactions: daily, monthly, and/or recurring sustainers.
  • Prepare and manage donor research profiles for internal donor briefs with gift officers & executive staff.
  • Contribute to and review written materials, including individual donor strategies, briefings, acknowledgments, and appeals, in a quality consistent with SOME's development communication standards.
  • Collaborate with development team members on communications and engagement efforts of donors.


Communications & Cross-Team Coordination:



  • Draft and coordinate donor-facing coorespondence including acknowledgments, invitations, and stewardship materials such as appeals, newsletters, and impact reports.
  • Serve as liaison between development and other internal departments to support shared goals and effective information flow.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all emails related to IP that have been forwarded from other departments/teams across SOME.
  • Manage and field all requests that come through the Monetary Donations phone line, fulfilling donor request(s) and communicating to appropriate staff when necessary.


Systems, Compliance, & Confidentiality:



  • Ensure confidentiality and ethical handling of donor and constituent information at all times.
  • Assist with audits, reconciliations, and end-of-year fundraising processes as needed.


Volunteer Engagement:



  • Conduct introductory follow-up calls with volunteer groups and individual volunteers after successful hand-off from the Volunteer Services team, identifying opportunities to engage them further as community members, potential donors, or grant partners.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to capture insights about both groups and individuals, recognizing when volunteers may be high-net-worth donors or key networking connections, and ensuring alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Assist the Individual Philanthropy team with organizing or supporting volunteer service projects as a means of stewarding key individuals and unassigned groups, ensuring they have a meaningful experience while cultivating new relationships or advancing existing ones.


Administrative Support:



  • Office management, including monitoring, ordering, and organizing supplies and printed materials, processing invoices, renewing subscriptions, scanning and filing documents, creating and maintaining files, and preparing materials for in-house mailings.
  • Primary point of contact for the monetary phone line, responding to donor questions and requests within 24 hours or directing inquiries to the appropriate party for response.
  • Provide team support for donor tours and events.
  • Provide writing and editing support as needed.
  • Assist with accurate record keeping and entering data into Salesforce, GoFundMePro/Classy, and other databases.
  • Other Duties as Assigned


Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds. Requires looking at a computer screen for several hours a day. May be required to sit for long periods.
