Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The University College works solely with first year, sophomores and transfers to promote academic success, retention, and graduation. We support the goal of graduation within four years by ensuring students take advantage of the full range of services available at North Carolina Central University.
Primary Purpose of Position
The primary purpose of this position is to provide administrative support for the Associate Dean, the Supplemental Instruction Program, 3 Academic Counselors and the Lyceum Program within the University College, a division of North Carolina Central University dedicated to ensuring the academic success of freshmen, sophomores, and new transfers.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The successful candidate must possess a working knowledge of Student Banner or an equivalent system; knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint) Applications; knowledge of budget and office management; knowledge of writing reports; knowledge of planning special events and meetings; ability to work independently with little or no supervision; to take initiative to see projects and assignments through to completion; to learn, interpret and analyze information to make necessary decisions; to exercise judgment and discretion in problem solving; to plan, prioritize and organize workflow; ability to work flexible schedules; excellent analytical and organizational skills along with written and oral communication skills, excellent editing skills; great interpersonal skills to interact effectively and diplomatically with a wide range of individuals in a high pressure environment.
Minimum Education/Experience
High School Diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Required Competency Communication - Verbal/Written
Duties
Communicate, assimilate and compose materials for Associate Dean and Academic Success and Enrichment Services department to use in a variety of settings and in response to internal and external inquiries. Skills and ability to write and edit memos, reports, correspondence and announcements.


Required Competency Office Technology
Duties
Needs to be familiar with Microsoft Office, software programs and database systems. Produces professional letters, flyers and brochures for the Academic Success and Enrichment Services department and Lyceum Program.


Required Competency Work Coordination
Duties
Design schedule and assist with dissemination of Supplemental Instruction information to various departments, social media and web site. Ability to prioritize duties.


Required Competency Problem Solving
Duties
Ability to analyze and resolve issues and concerns within the University College as well as the University. Needs to exercise independent judgment and ensure that decisions positively impact the Office of the Associate Dean and the University College.

Duties
