| Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
The primary purpose of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions is to identify, qualify, and enroll the best brightest and diverse population of talented students, which North Carolina, the region, the nation and the world has to offer and to promote for our clientele and exemplary array of programs to meet their educational professional development interests. |
| Primary Purpose of Position |
The Assistant Director - Undergraduate Admissions will focus heavily on managing travel processes to include managing the annual recruitment calendar, responding to 500+ travel requests from internal and external respondents, processing event payments, corresponding with alumni to assist with recruitment efforts, and utilizing data to inform decisions under the direction of the Associate Director. This position will directly supervise the departments campus tour coordinator who oversees the campus tour process and the programs student ambassadors. The Assistant Director will serve as the back-up to the campus tour coordinator in the absence of campus tour coordinator. This position will also serve as acting Associate Director in the absence of the Associate Director and acting Director in the absence of both the Director and Associate Director. |
| Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
Proven excellence in verbal and written communication. Skilled in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Ability to effective present information in one-on-one settings, as well as in small and large group situations, to a variety of audiences. Ability to prioritize tasks, plan work within the larger context of known program goals, make thoughtful decisions, and work independently on occasion. Proficiency in MS Office Applications, including word, power point, and excel. Experience in using a student information system (
BANNER,
DATATEL, AdmissionPros, etc.). Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Excellent customer service, oral communication, and interpersonal skills to deal effectively with a broad range of administrators, staff, faculty, students, and visitors. Comfortable with public speaking in large and small group settings. Ability to engage with a variety of populations. Ability to mange multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. Strong work ethic, organization, and time management skills and have the ability to prioritize and balance responsibilities. Review and manage student applications including contacting applicants regarding procedure compliance, offering guidance, and to ensure on-time submission of required components. Ability to maintain accuracy and confidentiality of all information, files, and records via the
BANNER system preferred. Must be able to work a flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends, and wiliness to travel on a frequent basis if necessary. Ability to train and supervise staff and student employees; and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. |
| Minimum Education/Experience |
Bachelor's degree required with at least 3 years of admissions and/or management/program coordination experience preferred. Degree must be received from an appropriately accredited institution. Experience involving public contact, oral and written communication and the interpretation of policies and procedures preferable in higher education, the field of teaching, student services or a related educational capacity is preferred. Candidate must possess a valid driver's license. |
