Job Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director of Denver Health Foundation (DHF), and functionally to the Denver Health Chief Operating Officer, the Associate Executive Director (AED) will serve as the Chief Operating Officer for DHF. The AED oversees administrative, operational, and financial functions to ensure high-quality, efficient, and compliant philanthropic services across the enterprise of Denver Health. This role is accountable for translating strategic priorities into operational execution, driving performance, innovation, and sustainability within the mission and values of Denver Health and DHF.
Essential Functions:
- Organizational Effectiveness: With the Foundation's Executive Director, develop an organizational focus that aligns with Denver Health's values and priorities.
* Collaborate on refining the Foundation's core vision, mission, strategy and goals; * Maintain an up-to-date system-level view; stay current on internal and external opportunities, challenges and trends likely to impact the effectiveness of top philanthropic initiatives; keep Foundation leadership informed of key developments; * Building on best practices, identify existing needs and gaps, and target emerging opportunities. (20%) - Operational excellence: Ensure operational excellence.
* Design strategies and signature initiatives based on substantive knowledge and continual learning about system and community needs and critical social issues; * Design and manage our internal operations and support functions for effective delivery at scale * Establish ongoing evaluation with an emphasis on long-term results, and track progress. Suggest approaches to implement and solutions for problems that arise. Synthesize new research. Build on effective strategies and develop new ones. (20%) - Strategic marketing and communications: With Denver Health's Marketing Department, plan, integrate and implement strategic marketing and communications to promote, enhance and protect the Foundation's fundraising position and uplift Denver Health's impact among diverse philanthropic audiences.
* Increase awareness among external audiences of their essential role in supporting Denver's health; * Build and strengthen the culture of philanthropy among Denver Health's internal audiences; * Ensure alignment of all Foundation staff, objectives, policies and practices with identified standards of communications excellence; * As supervisor of the Foundation's Communications Manager, provide direction and oversight to the implementation of Foundation marketing and communications plans. (20%) - Stakeholder management: Create and enhance relationships with cross-department and enterprise colleagues and leadership, donor prospects and external vendors to ensure current and future funding and support needs are met
* Ensure excellent customer service for all stakeholders. (20%) - Management: support the managers and directors within the support services
* Set goals and objectives, defining tangible measures of success; develop action plans, timeline and budgets; consult to improve workflows; * Leverage system resources, including employee skills, senior management commitments, communications, in-kind donations, etc.; * Assist in a variety of functions related to employee hiring, retention and policy development. (20%)
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree required.
- Master's Degree in Business or Finance preferred.
Work Experience:
- 10+ years experience in non-profits and/or corporate philanthropy required.
- 4-6 years executive leadership experience required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Advanced strategic and critical thinking skills
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate complicated matters in a simple, structured way to diverse audiences
- Strong ability to establish and maintain effective relationships, both internally and externally
- Solid understanding of the perspectives of key Denver Health and Denver Health Foundation stakeholders - from institutional investors to the beneficiaries of our work
- Deep knowledge, comfort and experience working in the spaces where corporations, nonprofits, government and philanthropic foundations intersect
- Talent for improving processes and managing workflows in a way that promotes efficiency as well as goodwill
- Keen eye for detail
- Proficient in Microsoft Office required
- Raiser's Edge data management system experience preferred
