Function:

Intern/Co-op Job Summary:The Environmental Specialist Intern will support the Manager, EHS DF & Environmental team in executing various environmental management system related compliance tasks across Distribution Facilities. This role offers hands-on experience in facility operations, environmental planning, sampling /monitoring and technical & permitting documentation, while contributing to real-world environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives. Job Description:

Major Responsibilities:

  • Support fieldwork sampling and calculations monitoring of results for air, water, soil, and waste
  • Compile data in order to prepare accurate reports and documents for regulatory submittal
  • Update environmental programs & procedures
  • Support regulatory compliance with local, state, and federal standards, including reading through regulations to provide insights compared to current operational practices
  • Help validate procedures and improve record-keeping systems
  • Participate in meetings to discuss compliance strategies and compliance liabilities
  • Help manage third party waste handling management (selection, screening, approval, and documentation)
  • Support product quality management and associated trends
  • Work closely with engineers, operators, and admins on multidisciplinary teams,
  • Communicate updates to our EHS team
  • Assist in designing & implementing sustainable solutions for pollution control, waste management, and resource conservation
  • Strong skills in data analysis, regulatory interest, and communication are required

Supervisory Relationships:

Position Reports To: Manager, EHS / Superintendent, Environmental

Incumbent Attributes:

Education: Currently pursuing a B.S. in Environmental Studies or Environmental Health (or similar), Chemistry, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.

Years of experience: Prior internship or school research project experience in environmental preferred.

Other unique job relevant attributes:

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% within the Midwest.

Position Scope/Contribution

  • Breadth of Scope: Provide assistance and participate with the environmental team in continuous improvement and compliance strategies in the network environmental management systems.
  • Communications and Interpersonal Skills: Effectively communicate/interact with all employee levels.
  • Strategic Influence: Collaborate with EHS team, Engineering, and Operations personnel to participate in defining, prioritizing, and developing environmental considerations and compliance needs for proposed projects.
