Description

This is a paid internship, range of $22/hr - $39/hr (depending on role and qualifications) for those currently pursuing undergraduate degrees and higher rates for those currently pursuing graduate level degrees.

Tentative 2026 Internship Dates:



  • Semester students: May 18th to July 24th
  • Quarter students: June 15th to August 21st


DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

Sound Transit's Office of Strategic Initiatives is responsible for how the public interacts with the agency throughout the Puget Sound region learning about Link, Sounder, ST Express, and Tacoma Link. The Video/photo intern will have an opportunity to be a part of the team that oversees our video and photo services and learn how a large regional transit system is managed.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

JOB DUTIES:



  • Produce/edit at least one large scale video project during internship.
  • Assist video production team on larger scale video.
  • Weekly deliverables to agency's social media team:

    • Vertically filmed Instagram reels.
    • 16:9 Video.
    • Instagram/Facebook live video feeds when required.
    • Other projects and concepts as directed.
    • Still pictures.


  • Assist with digital asset management. Cataloging, keywording, and backing up files.


POTENTIAL PROJECTS:



  • Documenting agency preparation for Pinehurst station opening.
  • Documenting and producing social content of World Cup visitor ridership.
  • Summer All Hands meeting video support.
  • Visual documentation of agency capital expansion progress.
  • Large scale project to be decided after onboarding.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must be a current college student in good academic standing, enrolled in an accredited associate, bachelor's or graduate degree program in Video or Photography Production, Communications, Journalism, or other non-technical discipline or relevant two-year certificate.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS:



  • Familiarity with principles and practices of video production and still photography.
  • Understanding of field audio gathering techniques and lighting.
  • Interest in communications/marketing, public policy, and transportation.
  • Experience with social media; Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn and X.
  • Comfortable working outside of a hybrid office environment with members of the public on mass transit, on construction sites and inside operational maintenance facilities.
  • Strong interpersonal techniques in-person, by telephone and via e-mail and a consistent commitment and ability to work with diverse groups and individuals.
  • Ability to adapt to changing environments and to work on multiple project teams and subjects simultaneously.
  • Experience with still picture editing.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Access to a cell phone with high quality camera.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • Editing experience with Adobe Premiere Pro and Lightroom.
  • Experience using Canon R or similar level mirrorless camera system.
  • Experience with drone and aerial photography/videography.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT:



  • Work is performed in a standard office environment and in the field.
  • Willingness to occasionally work night and weekend hours for specific productions.
