This is an entry level part-time seasonal civilian law enforcement position. Two (2) openings are scheduled to be filled and consist of approximately 28 hours per week. Duties include responding to non-hazardous calls for service throughout City Parks, such as parking issues, lost children, and enforcing minor City ordinance violations, traffic control, assisting Patrol Officers with non-hazardous calls while promoting Neighborhood Engagement philosophies through positive public interaction.

Work Schedule will be Thursday through Sunday.

Hourly Range: $16.7884 - $23.5423

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Answer non-hazardous calls for service regarding law enforcement matters, enforce selected City Ordinances, parking regulations, and notify Police Dispatch of issues in the City of Waukesha that require additional Police response.
  2. Direct traffic in the parks or on city streets as requested by Police Patrol Sergeant or designee.
  3. Build a working partnership with WPRF staff to include department head, park attendants, building and grounds supervisors and staff.
  4. Ensure safe traffic flow in the parks to include enforcing parking regulations by the issuance of parking citations.
  5. Foster a community policing philosophy by being available to citizens in the City of Waukesha and answering general questions.
  6. Required to have working knowledge of applicable Departmental Policies and General Orders. In addition, have a working knowledge of City of Waukesha Park rules, parking regulations, and applicable Municipal Ordinances.
  7. Required to carry a WKPD Police Radio and/or cell phone and answer calls for service on the radio and/or cell phone from Police Dispatch.
  8. Operator departmental vehicles in accordance with departmental procedures.
  9. Required to have knowledge of the City of Waukesha and its parks including location and areas of concern.
  10. Operate a Wireless Digital Assistant (WDA), or squad computer, to gain information from Police Dispatch and/or the TIME System.
  11. Issue parking tickets and some Municipal Ordinance Citations.
  12. Document all Municipal Ordinance Citations, in written form, with the aid of Police Clerical Division.
  13. Assist at special events throughout the City.
  14. Be available to testify in court to any parking violation or Municipal Ordinance citation.


Job Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Possession of WI drivers license with excellent driving record
  • Must be 18 years of age at the time of appointment
  • Must be willing to work various hours and days, and special events
  • Must be able to successfully operate a mountain bicycle
  • Must successfully pass a thorough background check and drug test
Preferred:
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish
  • Currently enrolled in a college level criminal justice program or other applicable course of study
  • First Aid/CPR certification
