Description

Macmillan is seeking a Sustainability Specialist to support its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) program. This role will be key in driving sustainable business practices and strategies to help Macmillan achieve its environmental targets. The Specialist will collaborate across various teams to ensure the company meets its sustainability goals, adheres to environmental regulations, and integrates eco-friendly practices into daily operations. Reports to the Director, ESG.

What you'll do:



  • Support Macmillan's Senior Manager, ESG in performing the annual carbon inventory for Holtzbrinck.
  • Compile Macmillan's greenhouse gas emissions data in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.
  • Collaborate with global, cross-functional teams and divisional leadership to collect data and monitor progress using the climate platform.
  • Work within the climate solutions platform to develop documentation and delegate tasks associated with the annual carbon inventory process.
  • Monitor the environmental actions of suppliers and resulting emissions.
  • Stay up to date with state, national and global environmental regulations, ensuring the organization complies with all laws and standards.
  • Support the preparation of sustainability reports that detail environmental performance, progress towards sustainability goals, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure regulatory compliance. For example, the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), California Climate Corporate Data Accountability Act (CCDAA).
  • Act as liaison between ESG and Production teams to ensure vendor compliance with pertinent global regulatory requirements, including the European Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).
  • Ensure global carbon data is properly prepared and managed in the climate platform to develop necessary regulatory reports & meet compliance needs.
  • Lead sustainability-related projects and initiatives for Macmillan.
  • Collaborate with the ESG team to implement long-term sustainability goals aligned with the company's vision and values.
  • Manage the implementation of programs for reducing waste and improving resource efficiency in operations.
  • Support the development of internal workshops and training sessions for employees to promote sustainability practices across Macmillan US.
  • Lead in-office sustainability programs, engaging with cross-functional teams and employee groups.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in sustainability to continually improve the organization's initiatives..


What you'll bring:



  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, or a related field. A Master's degree or certifications in sustainability are a plus.
  • 2-4 years of experience in sustainability, environmental management, or a related field.
  • Proficiency with sustainability software or tools, such as carbon footprint calculators or environmental impact assessment tools.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret environmental data and produce detailed reports.


This role will have an annual salary of $80,000-$85,000.
