Find your calling at Mercy! Responsible for implementing, in coordination with Nursing Leadership and Talent Development Optimization (TDO), programs aimed at improving competencies and increasing awareness of nursing trends. In conjunction with Nurse Managers, TDO, Physician leaders, and administration, develops and monitors QI programs for the Nursing Divisions, and all other Ancillary Departments. Coordinates clinical education at the unit and overall division level. Serves as a clinical consultant and a role model by planning and coordinating patient care in area of specialty practice. Acts as a consultant to the bedside nurse regarding specialty patient situations, directing the nurse in the appropriate direction and providing the necessary education. Including but not limited to IV therapy, wound therapy and care of the complex patient. As a resource person for the Hospital, consults with physicians, consumers, community and other health care disciplines. Full Time - 40 hours/week

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates equipment safety checks

  • Complies with patients rights/regulations and serves as a coach/mentor for others

  • Collaborates with special services supervisors and other hospital personnel to conduct annual drills: fire safety, disaster, code blue and malignant hyperthermia.

  • Evaluates practice and effectively implements change as a result of Quality Improvement (QI) studies or research.

  • Acts a consultant to the staff nurse in caring for complex clinical patients and directs the nurse to the appropriate resource/education.

  • Organizes and participates in educational programs for individuals, staff and community

  • Communicates effectively with Nursing Leadership and TDO for collaborative program development.

  • Coordinates and assists in evaluation of new products, supplies, equipment, policies, procedures and standards.

Requirements

Education: BSN required.
Licensure: Must have a current RN temporary permit/RN license in the State of Missouri.
Experience: Requires three - five years of experience in inpatient nursing.
Other: The person must be able to function well with a high degree of independence and initiative and possess an in-depth knowledge of clinical nursing. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Because of the changing needs of the department/institution, the appropriate percent of time devoted to the duties of the clinician, educator, researcher and consultant as outlined in duties and responsibilities may be contracted differently for certain

Preferred Education: MSN preferred.
Preferred Experience: Prefer minimum of 1 year experience in prior nursing leadership or education.
Preferred Certifications: Prefer specialty certification in nursing.
