Description

Stinson LLP seeks a staff attorney with at least seven years of experience with adversary employment law matters to join our Kansas City office. The position will require candidates to handle employment discrimination claims for the life of the matter from responding to EEOC and state equivalent agency charges through to trial/arbitration or appeal.

The candidate must have substantial experience practicing before the EEOC and fair employment practices agencies and in federal and state courts. Experience working under litigation management and billing guidelines used by large corporate clients and insurers is preferred. Requirements of the position include:



  • Excellent writing, oral advocacy, and analytical skills;
  • In-depth understanding of employment laws including, but not limited to, Title VII, ADEA, ADA, and FMLA.
  • Responsibility in defending employment-related administrative investigations and litigation;
  • Responding to charges of discrimination and request for information and interviews by the EEOC and fair employment practices and similar agencies;
  • Preparing and responding to pleadings;
  • Leading e-discovery and fact development, including conducting witness interviews and internal investigation, propounding and responding to written discovery, taking and defending depositions, and preparing witnesses to be deposed;


  • Responsibility for all aspects of developing defense and litigation strategy;
  • Non-dispositive and dispositive motion practice and appearance at court or arbitration hearings;
  • Preparing for and leading trial, arbitration, and appeals as needed;
  • Participation in mediation or other ADR and development of settlement strategy;
  • Organization and ability to coordinate and prioritize among numerous competing matters; and
  • Receptiveness to supervision but able to work independently;
  • Directing and managing work of junior attorneys, paralegals, and staff who may assist on matters;
  • Experience using legal-focused AI or other efficiency tools that streamline complex tasks and help improve accuracy and productivity.


Active Missouri license is required. Licenses in other states preferred, specifically Minnesota or eligibility to become admitted in Minnesota. This position allows for flexible, hybrid remote and in-office work options, but is not a fully remote position. The billable hour target for this position is 1,550 with a pay range of $115,000-$125,000 based on experience, with the potential to earn an annual discretionary bonus.

Occasional travel is required.
