DESCRIPTION

The Department of Medicine (DOM) is the largest department within the UCSD School of Medicine and is responsible for fulfilling the teaching, research, and clinical missions of the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. The department employs approximately 500 salaried faculty, 168 academic appointees, 331 residents, fellow and postdocs and 479 staff personnel.

The Senior Analyst Supervisor serves as an independent, professional expert in the area of academic affairs to a large and complex organizational unit made up of several large division within the Department of Medicine. Provide leadership, planning, development, and comprehensive management of the Academic process including training for faculty and division contacts directly related to academic matters. Responsible for contributing to policy and procedure development as well as customer service standards. The incumbent will provide support to department officials in developing recommendations that lead to major changes in the Department, as well as academic affairs policies, procedures and practices.

This position manages the Master Clinician Program in the Department, a new partnership with the Sanford Institute; manage all components of this program, including budgeting and contract negotiations. Position participates in new Chair initiative to provide one on one career counseling and academic review help to all 600+ faculty in Medicine. This involves a one hour session, that requires research ahead of time, and several brief follow ups through the year. While time intensive, it also requires high level analysis.

Position works closely with the Vice Chair of Education, and sets the guidelines by which the VC engages with medical students. Also responsible for strategizing with Division chiefs to ensure that their fellows and residents are successful and given appropriate opportunities and feedback. Additionally, the position oversees the DOMCAP process for the Department, analyzing responses from the committee to ensure that Department priorities and University criteria are met. Position works closely with the Chair to review all 700+ faculty are in compliance through UC OATS and works with various compliance agencies and committees to ensure the Department activities are appropriate. Other duties as assigned.

Receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and the process by which to meet goals. Responsible for supervising the day-to-day unit activities. Normally directs a section or group of analysts. Oversees and participates in complex projects and initiatives. Collaborates directly with internal and external stakeholders. Provides direction according to established policies and management guidance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Eleven years of related experience, education/training, OR an Advanced degree in related area plus five years of related experience/training

  • Thorough knowledge of organization or initiative processes, protocols and procedures.

  • Solid knowledge of / common organizational- or research-specific computer application programs.

  • Strong analytical / problem-solving skills.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate and influence others, both verbally and in writing.

  • Advanced project management skills.

  • Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.

  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.

  • Solid knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $88,000 - $161,600 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $42.15 - $77.39

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
