THE POSITION

The Department of Conservation & Natural Resources is excited to announce an opportunity for a Seasonal Full-Time Park Resource Ranger. This role is designed for individuals who are passionate about outdoor recreation and the preservation of natural spaces, as it focuses on ensuring public safety within State Park operations. As a non-law enforcement position, the Park Resource Ranger will engage with visitors to promote the responsible use of park facilities, helping to create a safe and enjoyable environment for all. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will be responsible for addressing inquiries from Park visitors about various aspects such as park facilities, recreational schedules, historical context, environmental features, and the surrounding area. You will patrol the park using a range of transportation methods, including motorized vehicles, bicycles, and on foot, while also clarifying park rules, regulations, and policies to visitors and special interest groups. Should any visitor actions necessitate further law enforcement intervention, you will promptly notify the Park Manager or DCNR Ranger. Additionally, you will respond to emergency situations and assist employees or visitors in need, administering first aid when required, including performing artificial respiration and cardiopulmonary resuscitation on injured individuals. Your role will also involve participating in search and rescue operations to locate lost visitors within the State Park's grounds and boundaries, as well as monitoring the security of park buildings and facilities. Regular inspections of buildings, park structures, and grounds for safety hazards will be part of your duties, along with preparing courtesy notices. You will assist in providing information, making reservations, issuing permits, and collecting fees through the ASPIRA reservation system, while also distributing camping receipts to designated campsites. Working at the swimming pool cash register will require you to handle cash transactions, balance the cash drawer, and complete all necessary cash reports. Staying informed about the Department's and Bureau's objectives, organizational structure, policies, procedures, and regulations will be essential for your success in this role. Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • This is a seasonal, full-time position with no healthcare benefits. There is not an option to buy into health care benefits. The season runs from approximately March 2026 until November 2026 at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay. The employee will automatically be returned to employment March 2027.
  • Days/shifts will vary due to the seasonal nature of the position, employee will work 37.5 hrs./5 days per week including holidays and weekends
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.
  • This position requires employees obtain a valid certification in standard first aid and adult, child, and infant CPR approved by the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or equivalent within 60 days of employment.

Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
  • In accordance with Act 153 of 2014 this position is required to complete Child Abuse, Criminal and Federal Criminal History Checks around the time of hire and thereafter every 5 years.
