Job Summary

The Associate Administrative Director, MedEd is responsible for supporting the operational goals and education initiatives of the Medical Student Program in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences. Responsibilities for this supervisory role include applying knowledge about curriculum, requirements and educational activities to coordinate professional health education programs. Coordinates and maintains program operations, which may include teaching and learning activities, program curriculum, learner scheduling, maintaining databases, tracking learner compliance, and program accreditation.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Administration, the Associate Administrative Director, MedEd manages a wide variety of programmatic activities for the Medical Student Program. These include but not limited to the following:

  • Annual Undergraduate Research Internship (URI)
  • Medical student interest group and career activities
  • Student electives
  • Clerkships (11 sites and 4 programs - traditional, Parnassus Integrated Student Clinical Experience (PISCES), Kaiser Permanente Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship (KLIC) Oakland and San Francisco)
  • Sub-internships
  • Visiting students
  • Student research opportunities
  • Volunteer Clinical Professor (VCP) program

The program supports courses for approximately 500 students per year. The Associate Administrative Director, MedEd will supervise two program coordinators and serves as a resource for UCSF faculty, Volunteer Clinical Professor, Site Directors, Course Directors, and UCSF students, and visiting students.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $98,100 - $164,200 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences (Ob, Gyn & RS) is a major academic Department in the School of Medicine, engaged in clinical, research and training activities at the Parnassus, Mount Zion, and Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital campuses, the new Betty Irene Moore Women's Hospital at Mission Bay, as well as satellite locations throughout the Bay Area, with an annual operating budget of $149 million. The Department has 134 full-time faculty, 117 other academic appointees, 13 post-doctoral fellows, 22 clinical fellows, 32 residents, 138 voluntary clinical faculty and 270 staff.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and minimum five years of experience or equivalent experience / training.
  • 3+ years lead/supervisor/manager experience; direct supervision of multi-discipline teams/units/direct reports
  • Skills to evaluate issues and identify solutions within defined procedures and policies. Demonstrated ability to solve problems and suggest solutions through critical thinking process.
  • Verbal and written communication skills to explain technical health profession / education concepts, actively listen, persuade, advise, and counsel.
  • In-depth knowledge of educational software and technologies to promote a wide-range of teaching and learning goals.
  • Proven ability to recruit faculty and integrate learners which requires high-level planning and coordination skills, the ability to think strategically and communicate complex information to multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Actively cooperates and supports the work of others. Ability to work productively with anyone regardless of background. Empathetic and aware of impact on others. Strong problem solving skills to assist learners and resolve issues.
  • Excellent organizational skills, analytical, and demonstrated attention to detail. Ability to complete work and meet
  • established deadlines in an accurate and timely manner, and to manage short and competing deadlines.
  • Thorough knowledge of educational software and platforms. Demonstrated ability to analyze and seek solutions to enhance the user experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of data management, documentation methods used in investigating and presenting findings about the program. Skills include statistical analysis of data across databases and systems.
  • Knowledge of the health professions education industry, administrative analysis and operations research. Knowledge of assigned program requirements and curriculum.
  • Knowledge of department, organization, HR and university policies and processes. Current knowledge of relevant industry federal, state and local laws and regulations including national accrediting organizations and state and federal licensing and regulatory offices.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in training and guiding employees on educational techniques. Motivates and inspires staff to improve the health profession education services.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize effectively to meet deadlines in a complex, challenging environment. Ability to organize assigned staff and unit operations in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Effective communication skills with peers, learners, faculty, and other education program coordinators / managers.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Master's degree in related area preferred
  • 3+ years of directly related experience in Medical Education
