Velcro Companies is looking for an enthusiastic intern who is majoring in Plastics, Textiles, or a related science or engineering field. The individual will have the opportunity to dig in deeply to an R&D project for the duration of their time, and they will report out on their meaningful work at Summer's end. The individual will be capable of multi-tasking to assist colleagues as they gain exposure to challenges and opportunities outside of their focal area. The individual will gain experience in the dynamic world of product development, work with colleagues in the R&D department and learn the tools of the trade.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develop / maintain / modify / execute a project plan related to a well-defined project challenge.
  • Research and report on previous approaches via literature search.
  • Create prototypes and evaluate their performance to solve the challenge.
  • Recommend designs and approaches for future considerations.
  • Assist others in a flexible and collaborative way as needed.
  • Take on additional tasks as necessary for other on-going projects requested by the R&D manager.

Job Qualifications:

  • Engineering or science degree in progress.
  • Basic experience with mechanical drawing, solid modelling, plastic processing and/or textile processing and/or adhesive processing.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work with multiple people who have different styles.
  • Ability and interest to learn new skills.
  • Applying curiosity to a primary project and smaller side projects (i.e. multitasking)
