Position Summary

The Specialized Transportation Senior Manager is responsible for developing truckload transportation services, especially specialty services such as flatbed, stepdeck, doubledrop, and other open trailers for Yusen's Supply Chain Solutions Group. This role is responsible for developing the carrier base, managing carrier performance, relationships, and overall carrier-facing operations. As well as managing the relationship with clients and ensuring services are delivered to their satisfaction. This role will directly or indirectly lead a team and oversee the day-to-day service execution services.



Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Develop Specialized Transportation Services

    Has in depth understanding of the specialized transportation market and operational practices
  • Act as subject matter expert and supports new business development and pricing exercises
  • Drives implementations and process improvements
  • Develop specialized transportation service offering

Manage Carriers

  • Drive expansion of reliable carrier base and ensure completion of Yusen carrier onboarding
  • Negotiate with carriers and has in depth understanding of carrier base reach and capabilities
  • Manage carrier lane allocation strategies, routing guides
  • Balance carrier engagement along with customer needs, operational efficiency, and Yusen profitability to achieve optimal results
  • Manage carrier performance, ensure issues are addressed and KPI targets are met
  • Maintain relationship with various stakeholder groups on the carrier side and serve as a point of operational escalation

Manage Clients

  • Proactively manages customer relationships with assigned accounts
  • Maintains a clear understanding of customer service requirements and processes, as well as commercial pricing arrangements
  • Serve as a point of escalation, address service issues, and report on overall account performance
  • Resolves customer matters at early stages and understands when to escalate a customer concern to management.
  • Monitor revenue, gross profit, and operational profit of assigned account(s), ensure accounts remain in line with annual targets

Manage People

  • Manage a team (directly or indirectly) responsible for overall carrier operations, supervise responsibilities, and develop capabilities
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the assigned team, address complaints, and resolve problems
  • Train, assign, and delegate workload, drive continuous cross training and process depth
  • Conduct performance reviews, make recommendations on corrective action, hiring or termination as needed
  • Demonstrate a concerted drive toward results and meeting operational KPIs as communicated by management
  • Be receptive to new ideas and different approaches to work at hand and drive the same mentality across the team (change management)


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree strongly preferred
  • Seven years' experience in supply chain / logistics / transportation Account Management, Customer Service, Inside Sales/Sales Support, Operations, or related functions, required
  • Four years of direct experience managing specialized transportation services
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Supervisory/management experience preferred
  • Ability to drive long distances and/or travel overnight as required.
  • Ability to receive and understand direction from supervision and management
  • Ability to Travel (up to 15%).
  • Capability and competency at the user level in logistics technology applications in the areas of Transportation Management System and other relevant systems/ tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with executives, clients and internal stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong communication (Verbal & Written) across all levels in the company is required.
  • Ability to work in a complex environment with limited supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively in a matrix environment
