Description

The primary role of the Associate Director, Global FP&A Business Partnering is to provide extensive business partnering and financial support to the Global Support Departments, with a primary focus on the R&D organization. Additionally, this role will be key to providing guidance and financial analyses to support the Strategic Resource Allocation Committee (SRAC) responsible for making global resource allocation choices and prioritization. Making the right resource allocation choices and prioritization decisions, including R&D investments, are critical to our future success and growth. This individual will provide valuable financial modeling, conduct financial metric analysis, monitor financial performance, support re-prioritization activities and provide meaningful insight to the leadership team responsible for the critical resource allocation decisions. This individual will also oversee financial planning, forecasting, management reporting and decision support for the R&D leadership team in line with the resource allocation choices made. This role requires significant partnering with multiple functions, including, but not limited to legal, commercial, business development and other areas of finance to effectively support accurate financial forecasting, meaningful performance updates, and business improvement / insights.

As a member of the Global FP&A team, this role will also support other FP&A activities from time to time. Some potential examples are, assisting in the implementation, alignment, and adoption of relevant financial systems to ensure data integrity and efficiencies, and other ad hoc requests.

Job duties:



  • Manage financial modeling for the business including but not limited to R&D projects, Business Development opportunities and possibly M&A opportunities. Conduct financial metric analysis and present findings to leadership to facilitate action on key strategic projects.
  • Rolling pipeline prioritization in collaboration with R&D/Finance/BD/Operations based on R&D budget, and project status/timing that leads to maximum use of R&D dollars.
  • Analysis of LRP pipeline projections on a rolling basis providing insights to leadership for strategic planning
  • R&D budget variance analysis on a monthly basis, ownership of rolling forecast process, and continuously tracking R&D P&L impact (includes legal, R&D, external partnerships, regulatory and clinical project spend)
  • Accrual journal entries that impact R&D P&L on a monthly basis
  • Accounting treatment for major complex partnership agreements on a monthly basis
  • Support/ownership for R&D/BD impacts on annual financial compliance/R&D tax credit
  • Monitoring of BD budget and impacts on new investments for the team
  • Financial liaison for R&D and BD organization (including ad-hoc analysis for executive team)
  • Ad-hoc needs for R&D projects including timing of milestones, investments and PO treatment
  • Actively participating in meetings for candidates including proposal of ideas, financial analysis, and strategies
  • Establish / maintain a strong control environment to ensure adherence to company and GAAP policies and procedures with regards to all research & development activities, including but not limited to treatment/recoding of milestone payments per contract, PO creation, etc
  • Collaborate with finance and accounting peers on month-end close activities, and ad-hoc projects
  • Research and provide industry best practices on benchmarking the department, establishing KPI's, analyzing pipeline results, assessing product development capability, time to market, R&D throughput, etc.


Minimum qualifications:



  • Ten (10) years in related experience in Finance or a similar role
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience
  • University Degree in Finance or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience
