Latin America Clean Energy Coalition Internship

About the Program:

The Latin American Clean Energy Coalition (LACEC), a new initiative led by the Global Energy Program, brings together a coalition of influential renewable energy (RE) buyers in Latin America, in collaboration with sellers and financiers, to drive policy and regulation in key Latin American markets. By marshaling a unified voice, LACEC will help governments implement policy changes to take advantage of the investment, sustainability, and energy security benefits of enabling better regional corporate RE sourcing.

LACEC will be launched by a Secretariat that includes the Climate Group, the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), Global Renewables Alliance (GRA) and the World Resources Institute (WRI). The coalition brings expertise, credibility, and independence to enable corporate procurement of renewable energy and accelerate the overall supply of renewable energy across Latin America. LACEC will recruit steering group members comprised of major energy-consuming companies, energy developers, and financiers.

This is a hybrid position which requires 8 days per month in the office. You can be based in our office in Washington DC. Existing work authorization is required at the time of application submission as WRI is unable to sponsor any visa work sponsorship for this position. To be eligible for this position, you must be a resident of DC, Maryland or Virginia at the start of employment.

What you will do:

• Assist with the day-to-day management of LACEC, liaising with members, partners, making strategic decisions, and assisting with communications.

Partner engagement and events coordination (50%):

• Support the planning and coordination of program events, including workshops, roundtables, and webinars.

• Assist with stakeholder engagement by helping manage participant outreach, invitations, registrations, and follow-up communications.

• Contribute to the development of event materials such as agendas, briefing notes, presentations, and talking points.

• Help track and document engagement activities, including partners' engagement, feedback, and attendance.

Research & knowledge (50%):

• Conduct desk research and monitor relevant national and regional clean energy regulatory frameworks, policy and market trends to support LACEC priorities and strategic planning.

• Support the development of knowledge products such as policy tracker, research briefs, background notes, presentations, and internal memos.

• Assist in synthesizing insights from reports, academic literature, and stakeholder inputs into clear, actionable findings.

Internship Learning Outcomes:

• Gain practical understanding of clean energy systems, policies, and market dynamics within a real-world programmatic context.

• Develop applied research and analytical skills, including data collection, synthesis of complex information, and evidence-based writing.

• Build experience in stakeholder engagement and collaboration across public, private, and civil society actors.

• Strengthen professional communication skills through the preparation of briefs, presentations, and event materials.

What you will need:

• Undergraduate or graduate studies in environmental science, engineering, economics, public policy, international development, sustainability, or a related field.

• Academic foundation in energy systems, climate policy, or sustainable development is preferred, along with demonstrated interest in clean energy transitions, particularly in emerging or regional markets.

• Relevant experience may include coursework, research projects, internships, or volunteer work related to renewable energy, energy efficiency, climate finance, or policy analysis.

• Possesses analytical, research, and written communication skills, is comfortable working with data and preparing briefs or presentations and demonstrates the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

• Ability to work creatively with multicultural audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity

• Familiarity with stakeholder engagement, basic quantitative analysis, or regional energy contexts is considered an asset but not required.

• Proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese (preferred) and ability to clearly communicate in English.

Compensation

The pay for this internship opportunity is $20/hourfor undergrads; $22/hour for graduates and $24/hour for PhD students.

Length of Contract:

This is a full-time, 3-month internship. Our summer internship start dates are June 16th, July 1st, and July 20th.

Location:

• This is a hybrid internship that will be based out of our Washington D.C. office.

• You will be required to work in the Washington DC office at least 8 days per month.
