JOB SUMMARY:
The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decision makers concerned with global security and prosperity. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of some 250 employees, including more than 120 analysts working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe.
The Global Development Department (GDD) is seeking a research intern to support our work. The GDD is dedicated to strengthening U.S. national security and global prosperity through policies that promote human wellbeing and economic opportunity. GDD brings together five of CSIS programs to provide cross-cutting research on international development challenges and policies and their role in U.S. national security.
The hired candidate will be paid hourly, commensurate with experience ($18.00/hour for current undergraduate hires, $19.00/hour for hires with a bachelor's degree, and $20.00/hour for hires with a master's degree).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Monitor timely global development and foreign aid issues to support GDD's research and engagements.
* Conduct research and summarize literature from various sources on different topics related to global development, foreign aid, and the Global South.
* Conduct weekly roundups of international development news, policy, and events for GDD leadership.
* Draft social media content and other digital media to promote GDD events, reports, and relevant research.
* Assist in event planning, research, outreach, and day-of coordination for GDD events.
* Identify, attend, and take notes on key events and conferences relevant to the work of the GDD.
* Develop resources, invitations, and scheduling tools for GDD staff programming.
* Perform a variety of administrative and logistical tasks as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:
* Prior research experience, either within a class or a previous internship in the following areas is desirable but not required.
o International development and foreign policy.
o International development issues particularly in the Global South.
* Must be able to work in-person at the CSIS office with the ability to work from home occasionally if needed.
* Must be at least an undergraduate student with a junior standing or above, master's student, or a recent graduate.
* Must have excellent English-language writing and research skills and be detail-oriented under pressure.
* Should be critical and creative thinkers who thrive in an independent working environment with tight deadlines. Proactive problem solving, proper time management skills, and the ability to brief staff in an effective and concise manner are essential.
* Must be able to function well as part of a friendly, small, and close-knit team. The ability to communicate efficiently and effectively is necessary.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK CONDITIONS:
