The Respiratory Therapy Manager at the Community Hospital is responsible for providing leadership and oversight to the respiratory care department. This position ensures the delivery of high-quality patient services, maintains adherence to regulatory standards, and fosters the professional development of respiratory therapy staff. The manager plays a critical role in supporting the hospital's mission to offer accessible and compassionate care to the local community.
Key Responsibilities
*Manage and supervise the respiratory therapy staff, including creating work schedules and conducting performance evaluations.
*Ensure compliance with all hospital policies as well as state and federal regulations governing respiratory care.
*Coordinate respiratory therapy services across various settings, including emergency, peri-operative, inpatient, and outpatient departments.
*Maintain adequate inventory and oversee the proper functioning of all respiratory equipment.
*Participate in hospital committees and contribute to quality improvement initiatives designed to enhance patient care and departmental performance.
*Monitor departmental performance metrics and track patient outcomes to ensure the highest standards of care are met.
*Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to optimize the delivery of respiratory care throughout the hospital.
*Monitor departmental expenses to ensure they are within the approved operating and capital budgets.
*Promote cost-effective utilization of resources, including staffing, equipment, and supplies.

Specific Tasks
*Conduct regular team meetings and perform evaluations to support staff engagement and professional growth.
*Review and approve timecards, paid time off (PTO) requests, and continuing education activities for team members.
*Collaborate with physicians to review and refine treatment protocols for respiratory care.
*Oversee the onboarding process and provide training for new hires in departmental procedures and standards.
*Participate in hospital-wide committees and support preparedness for The Joint Commission (TJC) accreditation.
*Supports department clinically as needed to ensure departmental operations are maintained.

Education
Bachelor's Degree Related Field of Study required and Master's Degree Related Field of Study preferred

Licenses and Credentials
Basic Life Support [BLS Certification]

Registered Respiratory Therapist [RRT] - The National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)

Respiratory Therapist [Massachusetts License] - Massachusetts Board of Respiratory Care

Respiratory Care Practitioner [State License] - preferred

Experience
Experience working as a respiratory therapist 3-5 years required and Experience in a supervisory or management role 1-2 years required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology of the respiratory system.
- Knowledge of respiratory therapy techniques and equipment.
- Proficiency in performing basic respiratory care interventions such as oxygen therapy and airway management.
- Ability to perform patient assessments and monitor patient progress.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot equipment and patient issues.
- Ability to adapt in changing situations and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
