Organizational Unit Overview
Facilities Services is a unit in the Campus Operations Division, which is a part of a broad division of Administration and Finance that includes all aspects of facilities management at East Carolina University. East Carolina University is the third largest university in the University of North Carolina system, with approximately 28,000 FTS and a staff of over 6,000. The university comprises of more than 7 million square feet of facilities located on approximately 1400 acres with physical assets in excess of $1.5 billion. This includes the Main, Health Sciences, and West Research Campuses, and satellite locations throughout North Carolina associated with university programs. Facilities Services has an annual budget in excess of $30 million and employs approximately 500 FTE. Major functions include facilities maintenance and housekeeping services.

Facilities Service's primary purpose is to plan and perform corrective and preventive maintenance functions on all building structures and equipment, and utility infrastructure. Corrective maintenance returns equipment to optimal design performance after failure or upon degradation from age, adverse operation conditions, etc. Preventive maintenance minimizes equipment failures and reduces corrective maintenance.
Job Duties
This position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial door hardware, cabinet locks, file cabinet locks, desk locks, padlocks, and select vehicle locking devices. The role includes designing and developing complex master key systems using computer-based key management software, as well as generating and exporting key codes to automated key cutting and CNC machines for precision cutting and engraving. Responsibilities include master keying all cylinder types, duplicating and cutting keys, and ensuring the proper function and security of all locking systems.
The position also involves servicing, repairing, and calibrating key cutting machines, CNC equipment, and other related shop machinery. The incumbent will install, maintain, and troubleshoot electronic locking devices, including hardwired and wireless systems, card access systems, and keypad or code-based access controls. Additional duties include installing, repairing, and replacing panic hardware and other commercial door components, while demonstrating a working knowledge of door functions, trim, finishes, and handing. The role requires maintaining accurate records in the facilities services database and managing inventory for shop supplies, service vehicles, and tools associated with the position, ensuring compliance with applicable safety and building standards.

This is a locksmith position and requires a NC Locksmith License.
