Job Description

The UMSL Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) is dedicated to fostering transformative, relationship-rich learning. We help faculty, staff, and students create engaging and meaningful learning experiences and support teaching excellence across the university. The Learning Innovation Specialist plays a key role in faculty development, instructional support, and advancing evidence-based teaching practices.

The Senior Coordinator for Student Embedded Support Programs supports the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) by coordinating key student academic support programs, primarily the Supplemental Instruction (SI) Program and collaboratively supporting the Active Learning Assistant (ALA) Program. The position advances UMSL's goals of improving academic success, retention, and student belonging by ensuring high-quality, peer-supported learning experiences.

The Senior Coordinator oversees all SI operations-recruitment, training, supervision, scheduling, and performance coaching of SI Leaders-and collaborates with the CTL Student Engagement Specialist on training and logistics for ALA student assistants. Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills are essential.

About the Supplemental Instruction Program: SI supports historically challenging courses through structured, peer-facilitated study sessions. SI Leaders attend class, collaborate with instructors, and guide students through activities that deepen understanding and strengthen academic skills.

Key Responsibilities
Supplemental Instruction (Primary Program Coordination)
* Coordinate all aspects of the SI program, including hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, and supervising SI Leaders.
* Identify high D/F/W courses suitable for SI and communicate regularly with faculty.
* Observe sessions and provide ongoing coaching and professional development to SI Leaders.
* Maintain accurate attendance, participation, and outcome data; analyze results for reporting and improvement.
* Promote SI to faculty, advisors, and students through presentations and outreach.

Active Learning Assistant (ALA) Program (Collaborative Support)
* Collaborate with the Student Engagement Specialist to support ALA program implementation.
* Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and coordination of ALA student assistants.
* Help plan and facilitate joint SI/ALA trainings and workshops.
* Support faculty and assistants with logistics for active learning courses.

General Student Support Coordination (Data Oversight and Administrative Functions)
* Maintain program materials, documentation, and data systems.
* Approve bi-weekly payroll for SI student employees.
* Represent CTL student support programs to faculty, staff, students, and campus partners.
* Assist in developing resources and identifying opportunities to improve student support structures.

Other Duties (Collaboration within team and across campus)
* Participate in CTL team meetings and initiatives.
* Coordinate with Student Outreach Services as needed.
* Perform additional duties supporting CTL programming and student academic success.

Shift

40 hours/week. Monday thru Friday.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

* Master's or terminal degree.
* Experience in higher education or student success roles.
* Experience supervising or mentoring student employees.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff and students.
* Ability to main confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
* Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.

Competencies
* Knowledge of evidence-based academic support and peer education practices.
* Familiarity with learning theory, educational psychology, or evidence-based teaching practices.
* Skill in training, coaching, and developing student leaders.
* Using student success data to guide program decisions, program evaluation and improvement.
* Strong relationship-building skills with faculty and campus partners.
* Strong organizational and project-management abilities.

Preferred Experience in Higher Education
* Experience teaching in higher education.
* Experience analyzing program data or conducting program evaluation.
* Collaborating with faculty on student-embedded academic supports.

Preferred Student Support Experiences
* Experience coordinating academic support, peer education, or student success programs such as SI, tutoring, peer mentoring, or similar academic support models.
* Supervising or coaching undergraduate student employees.
* Experience designing and facilitating trainings, orientations, or workshops.
* Working in environments emphasizing student belonging and student-centered learning.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range:$52,915.20 - $74,484.80 per year
Grade: GGS-010
