Job Summary

This position will work onsite on a regular basis.

Collaborates with senior leaders to develop strategic plans and objectives. Supervises Imaging IT analysts, which support mission-critical clinical applications used by UCSF physicians and clinical staff. This includes (but is not limited to) Voice Recognition Systems, PACS, Vendor Neutral Archive (VNA), Enterprise Image Viewer, and other imaging post-processing systems. Collaborates with UCSF Clinical Systems in developing patient-centric imaging solutions and procedures. Manages Service Delivery to all Imaging IT customers. Supports small project management and maintains good ITIL and SDLC practices. Assists in managing the Imaging IT Application portfolio. Erroneous decisions will have a serious impact on the overall success of the department, division and the organization. The incumbent develops staff to ensure consistent, technology-competent service across all areas of the Imaging IT. The applications Imaging IT supports are used by the Medical Center to acquire, store, report, and distribute imaging studies. The incumbent must have expert-level imaging informatics, leadership, and communication skills.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $166,600 - $249,000 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

Enterprise Imaging IT under the Health IT at UCSF combines clinical excellence and outstanding education in a leading academic health sciences institution. Enterprise Imaging manages over 60 applications across multiple functional areas, over 300 radiologists' workstations on-prem and at home, and onsite Datacenter. The department comprises the following functional areas: Radiology & Development, Specialty, Infrastructure, and Diagnostic Station Service, and comprises 25 team members across the functional areas.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • At least 5 years of experience managing technical staff
  • Familiarity with enterprise-class networking, including routing, firewalls, load balancers, and network security
  • Willingness to accept after-hour pager responsibilities (on-call) that include weekdays/weekends/holidays
  • Working knowledge of the operations of clinical imaging systems and the policies, processes, and practices involved with managing, storing, and transferring medical images - including DICOM and HL7.
  • Extensive or advanced knowledge of the subject area sufficient for strategic planning, technology assessment and direction
  • Experienced in leading change management activities and managing their impact across multiple units or departments
  • Experience in the management of ongoing technology infrastructure acquisition and expansion, to include the identification and integration of suitable emerging technologies
  • Thorough knowledge of Imaging IT technical concepts and basic operating principles of data communications, computer hardware, vendor IT products, and software.
  • Requires full knowledge of own area of functional responsibility, with knowledge of other areas of IT and managing a software support team.
  • Has strong skills associated with managing the internal information systems functions, data communications network and campus, medical center or Office of the President security systems.
  • Ability to understand the process involved to adapt, integrate, and modify existing programs or vendor-supplied products for use within a large and complex technical environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively present technical topics to large groups with potentially varied levels of technical sophistication.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of new integration technologies such as HL7 FHIR and DICOMweb
  • Certifications:
    • Epic Radiant and Bridges
    • Certified Imaging Informatics Professional (CIIP)
