Duties & Responsibilities:



  • Technical Operations Specialist will provide offsite technical surveillance support for approximately two weeks, three times per year, during JMAS exercises in Florida or, under special circumstances, at an alternate location designated by the Commandant.
  • Oversee the installation, operation, maintenance, and accountability of specialized technical surveillance equipment for a complex CAPSTONE exercise.
  • Deliver hands-on training to personnel, ensuring proficiency in equipment usage and operational procedures.
  • Technical Operations Specialist will lead a surveillance team, coordinating tasks and ensuring all technical requirements are met while maintaining exercise integrity and optimizing performance through strategic oversight.
  • Deliver IT support for field exercises in the National Capital Region, ensuring seamless technology integration and functionality.
  • Oversee the installation and testing of audiovisual equipment across multiple locations to support JMAS field operations.
  • Technical Operations Specialist will perform routine maintenance, diagnose technical issues, and manage the accountability of laptops and audiovisual systems to ensure optimal performance during capstone and field exercises.
  • Maintain equipment reliability through proactive assessments, upgrades, and adherence to operational standards, creating a smooth and effective training environment.
  • Assist with training instructors, staff, and students on the school's IT equipment, including classroom audiovisual and computer systems.
  • Assist with the setup and management of JMAS student computer accounts, overseeing account creation, maintenance, token issuance, and troubleshooting within DIA regulatory limits.
  • Technical Operations Specialist will serve as the alternate JMAS liaison to the Academy for Defense Intelligence (ADI) and DIA for IT-related issues.
  • Maintain and support laptops, non-network printers, and essential training equipment used in seminar rooms, classrooms, and field exercises.
  • Technical Operations Specialist will manage equipment disposal processes in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):



  • Knowledge of technical surveillance equipment, installation procedures, and operational practices used in training environments and field exercises.
  • Knowledge of IT systems, audiovisual equipment, and associated hardware and software used to support classroom instruction and field operations.
  • Skill in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining laptops, audiovisual equipment, printers, and specialized surveillance systems to ensure operational readiness.
  • Ability to install, configure, and operate technical surveillance and audiovisual systems in support of capstone and field exercises across multiple locations.
  • Ability to train instructors, staff, and students in the proper use of IT and audiovisual systems and provide responsive technical support during training activities.
  • Ability to lead and coordinate a technical surveillance team, assign tasks, and ensure technical requirements are executed effectively during exercises.
  • Ability to maintain equipment inventories, manage lifecycle accountability, and ensure proper handling, maintenance, and disposal of equipment in accordance with regulatory requirements.


Minimum/General Experience:



  • The Technical Operations Specialist must have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in information technology, audiovisual technology, and technical surveillance.
  • The Technical Operations Specialist must have at least five (5) years of experience in technical surveillance operations and equipment maintenance.
  • Experience working with military personnel in Department of Defense environments is highly desirable.


Minimum Education:



  • HS Diploma, or equivalent
  • A degree in a related field is preferred but not required.
