Distribution Mechanic II - Thermal Systems

Position Summary
The Distribution Mechanic II assists with the maintenance, repair, and installation of steam and chilled water distribution systems to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of thermal energy from plant facilities to the distribution network and customers.
This role supports the inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of piping systems, mechanical components, and associated infrastructure while adhering strictly to safety regulations, operational procedures, and public safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect, maintain, and repair distribution piping, manholes, ducting, reducing stations, valves, and expansion joints.
- Identify, locate, and repair leaks or faulty equipment associated with steam and chilled water distribution systems.
- Install new or replace existing steam and chilled water service lines.
- Perform welding, cutting, brazing, and pipefitting tasks throughout the distribution systems as required.
- Inspect and maintain vehicles, tools, and equipment used in distribution repair operations.
- Operate heavy and specialty equipment, including dump trucks, backhoes, cut saws, and similar tools.
- Assist in evaluating the condition, readiness, and performance of the distribution system and recommend improvements.
- Assist in maintaining inventory of materials and parts necessary for distribution system maintenance and repairs.
- Ensure all city and state permits, regulations, and safety standards are followed and that work performed does not endanger employees or the public.
- Respond to and ensure PA One Call requests are addressed and located in a timely manner.
Safety & Compliance Responsibilities
- Qualify as a Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Authority and properly apply LOTO procedures and other safety measures.
- Qualify as a Competent Person for erecting scaffolds, barricades, platforms, and shoring to support work activities and protect work zones.
- Qualify as a Confined Space Attendant/Supervisor for work performed in vaults, excavations, and confined spaces.
- Provide appropriate site protection, barricades, and warnings to ensure safety for employees and the public.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in mechanical maintenance, pipefitting, industrial systems, or thermal distribution systems.
- Ability to perform welding, cutting, brazing, and pipefitting tasks.
- Ability to operate construction or maintenance equipment used in distribution system repairs.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred
- Experience operating heavy equipment such as dump trucks or backhoes.
- Experience working with steam or chilled water distribution systems.
- Welding 6G Certification or equivalent welding certification.
Training and certifications will be provided

- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, climbing, and working in confined spaces.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and industrial environments.
- Ability to work in underground vaults, trenches, and excavation areas.
