Position Summary

This is a full-time, 175-day (10-month annual contract) tenure-track faculty position in the Mathematical Sciences Department with an emphasis in Mathematics and Statistics. The successful candidate may be assigned to the Santa Maria Campus or the Lompoc Valley Center with the possibility of teaching at other sites and/or evening and weekend classes.

A mathematics faculty member provides instruction in mathematics - which may include any mathematics course through calculus and linear algebra, statistics, co-requisite support courses, and tutorial work in the Math Center. The department offers a large number of courses in Elementary Statistics and the successful candidate will need to have preparation and/or experience with that subject matter.


Essential Functions and Qualifications

  • Work with students possessing a broad range of academic preparation, learning styles, skills, motivation, and educational goals.
  • Communicate effectively.
  • Plan, organize, and effectively present innovative course materials and concepts.
  • Evaluate and advise students; and plan, prepare and revise instructional materials as necessary to improve student success.
  • Participate in program review, assessment, and curriculum development; maintain five (5) office hours weekly for student consultation; and participate fully in department and college activities, including membership on department and campus-wide committees.
  • Maintain class and examination schedules, as well as grade and attendance records, according to college regulations; and perform related tasks and duties as required.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and supportive working relationships with colleagues and students.
  • May also provide outreach to, and articulation with, district high schools and four-year colleges and universities.
  • Function well in a technology-driven environment.
  • Incorporate current technology such as graphing calculators, smart classrooms, computers, websites and webtools, into instruction.
  • Have experience with and/or coursework in statistics.
  • Apply evaluation and assessment methods.
  • Identify and use learning outcomes and assessments that lead to course and program improvements.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Commitment to supporting underrepresented and underserved student populations.
  • Awareness of student inequities and knowledgeable of anti-racist practices.
  • Evidence of creating culturally responsible curriculum and instruction.
  • Evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and community college students and of staff and students with disabilities.
  • Experience and enthusiasm for teaching a variety of mathematics courses from developmental mathematics through calculus, linear algebra, and statistics.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in mathematics or applied mathematics.

OR

Bachelor's degree in either of the above;

AND

Master's degree in statistics, physics, or mathematics education.

OR

The equivalent as outlined in Board Policy 7211.

Start date: August 2026, pending board approval.

The hiring salary range is $66,760 to $97,816 dependent upon education and experience.
