General Description

The Transmission Analyst will run technical studies to support greenfield and development efforts related to renewable projects. Automate powerflow and SCED studies and create regular reports to summarize market dynamics and changes to market signals and assumptions related to Transmission Infrastructure, Generation buildout and Load expectations. Track regulatory developments in assigned markets in order to advise the project team in handling all transmission-related issues and minimizing potential risks for the company.

Main Accountabilities

  • Perform transmission load flow and LMP analysis and run models of the ISO system to determine impact on EDPR's renewable portfolio
  • Analyze, forecast, and provide guidance regarding, forward prices, transmission congestion, and LMP basis price spread
  • Automate powerflow and SCED analysis tasks using proper programming tools
  • Automate reporting related to assumptions and results for powerflow and SCED studies
  • Work with project developers to ensure each project has adequate transmission or the access needed to ensure competitiveness
  • Support Market Operations and the rest of the Energy Management team in all transmission-related matters
  • Mitigate transmission risks within EDPR's portfolio
  • Additional duties as required

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Master's degree preferred
  • 1 - 2 years in the utility industry; generation interconnection experience preferred
  • Knowledge and understanding of PSSE and Power Flow software (Steady State, Dynamic, Transient stability)
  • Thorough knowledge of programming skills such as Python, Java, SQL, etc
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Project preferred
  • Competency in Analytical Problem Solving, Strong Communication, Customer/Partner Relationships, and Technology Expertise. Preferred

Behavioral requirements

  • Ability to deal with complex issues from a high theoretical level to implementation details (e.g., ability to understand technical standards and how they will eventually impact commercial activity)
  • Ability to work with EDPR's leadership team to align the transmission strategy with the overall corporate strategy
  • Ability to influence others to accommodate EDPR's interests including meetings with high-ranking political figures and public speaking
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills

Physical demands & working conditions

  • Sitting/Standing/Flexibility: Ability to stand and sit for 8 or more hours when in an office environment
  • Speech/Reading: Ability to speak, read, and write English proficiently and deliver a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Lifting: Ability to lift items weighing up to 10 pounds
  • Vision/Hearing: Ability to understand a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form
  • Safety: Ability to understand and communicate safety precautions when necessary
