THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Systems Administration Intern, you will help support the technology that keeps statewide systems running smoothly. You'll work with experienced staff, learn new tools, and take part in real projects that make a difference. In this role you will be exposed to Linux and Microsoft Windows Server administration, server hardware and software support, virtualization, orchestration, system monitoring, and event management. Additional duties include:

  • Assist Technical Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) with enterprise system support and related tasks.
  • Help implement products and services under Commonwealth and federal guidelines.
  • Support applications that integrate with statewide systems.
  • Collaborate with technical teams and business users.
  • Participate in planning and scheduling tasks under guidance.
  • Assist in identifying process improvements and documenting work for future reference.
  • Help monitor servers, apply updates, and perform basic configuration tasks.
  • Contribute to issue tracking, risk identification, and contingency planning.
  • Provide basic product support and respond to questions accurately and promptly.
  • Assist with testing activities and follow established quality standards.
  • Communicate status updates clearly and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Develop problem-solving and customer service skills through hands-on experience.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Internship will run from May through August 2026, with the potential to extend through the first week of January 2027 based on workload and business needs.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. You must work from the office building in Harrisburg two days per week (Mondays and Tuesdays), which is subject to change. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

Internship Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in college full-time (carrying 12 or more undergraduate credits, or 9 or more graduate credits) pursuing majors in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or other IT related majors.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • In good academic standing (as defined by a GPA of 2.0 or higher)

Additional Requirements:
  • Must be able to pass CJIS Online Certification Training with the first two weeks of employment.
  • Must have six months or more of experience working with Windows Operating Systems.
  • Must have six months or more of experience working with Microsoft Power Shell.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
