About the Job

The University of Minnesota Crookston, one of five campuses comprising the University of Minnesota system, invites applications for a full-time faculty member to teach Composition, Writing, and English classes in the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Education Department (HSSE) and provide leadership to the Writing Center. This position is for individuals with a master's degree and/or a terminal degree with an interest in teaching and service.

Position

Full-time, nine-month, annually-renewable lecturer position (Class #9754) in Composition/Writing/English in the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Education (HSSE) Department at the Crookston campus of the University of Minnesota starting August 17, 2026. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, and a competitive fringe benefits package is offered. Lecturers are eligible for professional development support. Responsibilities

The HSSE Department seeks a faculty colleague to deliver high-quality undergraduate instruction on campus and online to the students in composition, writing, and English. Approximately 25% of assigned duties will be providing leadership to the campus Writing Center, housed in the Student Success Center. Depending on department needs, the candidate will have opportunities to teach more specialized advanced courses.

Along with teaching, the successful candidate will:

  • assist in the coordination of Writing Center services, including facilitating the 1-credit writing lab course;
  • provide direct consultations with students on their writing as scheduled through the Writing Center;
  • participate in recruitment and retention efforts;
  • enhance programs and student experiences, as well as employment opportunities;
  • provide service to the department, institution, and profession; and
  • work collaboratively with faculty and Student Success Center colleagues.

This appointment carries a 30.0 credit hour workload per academic year, distributed over the fall and spring semesters. This position's assigned duties will be comprised of approximately 75% teaching credits and 25% Writing Center duties.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in English, Composition and Rhetoric, or related field;
  • Ability to deliver effective teaching both on campus and online;
  • Demonstrated teaching experience in writing courses;
  • College teaching experience;
  • Effective communication skills;
  • Ability to demonstrate cultural competency within the scope of the land grant mission; and
  • Commitment to an experiential educational philosophy within the scope of the land grant mission

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in English, Composition and Rhetoric, or closely related field;
  • Writing Center experience;
  • Experience teaching writing to international students;
  • Potential for scholarly publications in the field of writing
  • Proficiency in a second language, preferably Spanish

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $58,000 - $70,000 per year; depending on education/qualifications/experience
