DESCRIPTION

As a Project Manager for the Construction Projects Department (MTPT), you will play a crucial role in ensuring the Planning, Design, and Construction team completes projects on-time and on-budget for the UCSD Health System Facilities Division . Your role will focus on overseeing design and construction project management within the Hospitals and Medical Office Buildings throughout the San Diego County. Primary duties include:

  • Manage multiple construction projects within UCSD Health System and community clinics.
  • Oversee all phases of project planning, investigation, construction, and renovation in both occupied and unoccupied medical facilities.
  • Ensure building systems and construction work comply with required standards and codes.
  • Develop and manage project budgets, work scopes, and schedules.
  • Address project delays or disruptions and ensure timely completion within guidelines.
  • Coordinate multi-craft estimates and technical building systems involving specialized medical equipment.
  • Use sound judgment in planning and problem-solving to ensure safety in healthcare settings.
  • Administer and manage all technical and administrative aspects of construction projects.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (Joint Commission, HCAI, NFPA, California Building Codes).
  • Maintain strong communication and collaboration with project teams, including General Services, IT, planners and clinical personnel.

Planning, Design & Construction manages building master planning and construction for UCSD Health. From replacing end-of-life imaging equipment to building out new clinics in the community, we are dedicated to supporting UCSD Health's commitment to deliver leading edge patient care, education and research.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Seven (7) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus three (3) years of related experience/training.
  • Experience and working knowledge of building and construction, design, construction contract administration and California Building Codes, including full understanding of industry practices.
  • Proven experience in developing project scope and ROM.
  • Comprehension of California Building Code, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OHSPD), California Department of Public Health (CDPH), State Fire Marshal (SFM), and policy requirements for hospital construction.
  • Thorough knowledge of building and construction, design, engineered systems, construction contract administration and California Building Codes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current project and construction costs and with industry standard cost estimating. Must have financial skills to develop and manage project budgets.
  • Outstanding soft skills in problem recognition, avoidance, and issue resolution.
  • Basic knowledge and technical skills with computer programs and applications (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, etc.).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Five (5) years of experience in construction management and/or supervision.
  • OSHPD 1 construction experience.
  • Experience with construction management software like ProCore and E-Builder.
  • Experience working in an academic medical center setting.
  • Familiarity with the UCOP Facilities Manual, policies, and procedures.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Work hours are Monday through Friday and various hours and locations are based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $97,200 - $182,000 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $46.55 - $87.16

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
