Job Description
General Responsibilities:
Oversee and provide technical expertise in the management and growth of regional laboratories. This includes ensuring that the laboratory testing services are conducted in a safe manner and consistent with company protocols, project requirements, and in a timely manner. Oversee the training and utilization of laboratory staff. Provide direction and lead efforts to standardize policies, practices and procedures among employees and labs. Monitor the performance of teams and facilitate training, site visits, quality audits and safety incident investigation. Participate in marketing activities and recruitment of new team members.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Partner and collaborate with other Regional Technical Consultants in other regions to develop the line of business across divisions and operating groups.
  • Assist in the execution of growth strategies and actions necessary to achieve the strategic and annual operations plans.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert, resource and point of contact to office and department personnel within the region.
  • Participate in client development and pursuit activities.
  • Works with Office Management and Department Managers during preparation of proposals and quotations for laboratory testing services to ensure proper scoping of services, availability of manpower, and appropriate pricing to render a profit.
  • Directly supervises laboratory teams to ensure that the work is executed on time and in accordance with the client and project requirements and within company policies, procedures and standards.
  • Ensures that laboratory processes and personnel adhere to the requirements of the company Quality program and the Construction Materials Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Assists in evaluating the performance of all employees within the laboratory and assists them in their professional development and growth, consistent with company policies and procedures.
  • Oversees the administrative systems of the laboratory to ensure that reports, proposals, and information required to serve the client are properly prepared and reported by local laboratory teams.
  • On occasion, may be required to perform laboratory testing based on workload and staffing.
  • Responsible for partnering with laboratories within designated region by providing technical expertise and consulting to further the development of a new business or service offering.
  • Develop and recommend policies, practices and procedures for the laboratory business to drive uniformity and standardization across the region.
  • Assist in recruiting/interviewing.
  • Provide technical support on projects as needed.
  • Assist in the development of projects, business and clients.
  • Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in technical discipline practiced by the firm or related discipline and a minimum of 8 years' related experience. Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 12 years' related experience.
  • Certification by qualified national, regional or state authorities (ACI, NICET, DOT) is required in areas of Asphalt, Soils and Concrete.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.
