BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE ANALYST II

The Business Intelligence Analyst II plays a guiding, hands-on role in delivering trusted, scalable analytics across McGough. This position focuses on shaping analytical problems, pioneering dashboard and reporting solutions, and ensuring business-critical analytics are designed with clarity, performance, and long-term sustainability in mind.This role works closely with business leaders, Product Managers, Business Analysts and cross-functional partners to clarify complex analytical needs, identify tradeoffs, and translate evolving requirements into durable Tableau dashboards and governed data assets. The Business Intelligence Analyst II is responsible not only for building analytics solutions, but for ensuring they align with domain objectives, data standards, and enterprise architecture. Reporting to the Analytics Manager, this role operates as an individual contributor. The emphasis is on ownership, quality, and elevating the maturity of analytics delivery across the organization.

Qualifications:

Required:



  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a data, analytics, or technical field.
  • 4-7 years of experience delivering business intelligence or analytics solutions.
  • Advanced hands-on experience building and optimizing dashboards in Tableau.
  • Strong SQL proficiency with experience querying enterprise data warehouses (Snowflake, AWS, Azure, BigQuery, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience leading analytical efforts for complex or cross-functional initiatives.
  • Strong analytical thinking, facilitation, and communication skills.


Preferred:



  • Experience in construction or project-based operational environments.
  • Experience optimizing Tableau dashboards for performance at scale (extract strategy, performance tuning, data modeling decisions).
  • Familiarity with data governance, data modeling concepts, and data lifecycle management.
  • Experience using Python for data analysis, automation, or advanced data preparation.
  • Experience mentoring or guiding junior analysts.
  • 7+ years of experience delivering business intelligence or analytics solutions.


Skills:



  • Advanced Tableau design, data modeling alignment, and performance optimization.
  • Strong SQL proficiency for complex joins, transformations, and validation logic.
  • Ability to structure ambiguous business questions into measurable KPIs and dashboards.
  • Strong facilitation skills for cross-functional analytical discussions.
  • Ability to evaluate tradeoffs between speed, performance, usability, and governance.
  • Clear executive-level communication of insights and limitations.
  • Strong attention to quality, sustainability, and scalability of analytics assets.
  • Ability to coach and elevate the quality of work across the BI team.


Office and Travel:



  • Position can be remote or based in McGough's Roseville MN or Raleigh, NC Offices.
  • Travel is expected to be approximately 15% consisting of quarterly trips to McGough's headquarters for various training or team building activities. Additional travel to various national office locations may be required as determined by the individual and their manager.


Responsibilities and Tasks:

Analytics Solution Development and Leadership:



  • Lead the design and delivery of complex Tableau dashboards and reporting solutions.
  • Own end-to-end development of high-impact analytics initiatives.
  • Optimize dashboards for performance, scalability, and long-term maintainability.
  • Ensure analytics solutions align with enterprise data definitions and domain objectives.


Advanced Data Analysis & Preparation:



  • Write complex SQL queries to extract, transform, and validate data from enterprise warehouses such as Snowflake.
  • Identify and resolve systemic data quality issues impacting analytics reliability.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineering to improve data models, structures, and availability.
  • Apply consistent and reusable logic across analytics solutions.


Business Partnership & Requirements Gathering:



  • Lead analytical discovery sessions with business stakeholders to clarify objectives and metrics.
  • Translate ambiguous requests into structured dashboards and measurable KPIs.
  • Surface assumptions, risks, and dependencies early in the analytics lifecycle.
  • Present insights and recommendations clearly to both technical and executive audiences.


Governance & Operational Excellence:



  • Reinforce analytics standards, governance practices, and documentation expectations.
  • Contribute to improving dashboard design standards, naming conventions, and modeling practices.
  • Mentor Business Intelligence Analyst I team members in best practices.
  • Identify recurring inefficiencies and propose improvements to analytics workflows.


Additional Responsibilities:



  • Participate as an active member of the Business Intelligence team. Contribute to shared goals and collaborate with colleagues on achievement of priorities.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, contractors and other stakeholders to align efforts. Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Position involves sitting for extended periods of time at employee's workstation and during meetings as well as while traveling, either by plane or car. Employee needs to be able to lift to 20 pounds as frequently as needed to move objects; dexterity to write and manipulate computer keyboard and mouse; ability to hear and speak clearly; and ability to distinguish between colors on graphs and charts.

Employee may be required to visit construction jobsites which may expose the employee to dirt, dust, uneven surfaces, outdoor weather conditions and extreme temperatures.

In alignment with our commitment to pay transparency, the base salary range for this position is $93,000 to $121,000, excluding fringe benefits or potential bonuses. If you join McGough, your final base salary will be determined by several factors, including geography, loca,tion, skills, education, and experience. Furthermore, we place significant value on pay equity among our current team members as part of any final job offer.

Please note that the range provided above reflects the hiring range for this role. Hiring near the top end of this range would be atypical, as we aim to allow room for future salary growth. Additionally, McGough offers a comprehensive compensation and benefits package. This includes insurance coverage for medical, dental, vision, life, and disability. We also provide generous retirement plans, voluntary benefit plans, parental leave, substantial paid time off, and holiday pay.
